162,000,000. They say it "under performed." How much were they hoping for?
162 Million for the third installment of a trilogy? That seems pretty good to me.
I think a reason too it maybe wasn't recieving as much as they hoped was because people are purposely avoiding it for a week. I myself avoided going to see it on Friday because I didn't want to deal with the crowds. I have several friends who are waiting to see it next week because they were anticipating the movie being crazy packed this weekend.

And "The Joker" in Colorado could have also been a factor to it "under-performing".
As of today, TDKR is outpacing Batman Begins but not matching The Dark Knight. But it's still early in the run and has no real competition for the rest of the summer.
The first week box-office take of $224.8M for TDKR ranked fourth all-time, behind The Avengers ($270M), The Dark Knight ($238.6M), and the final Harry Potter film ($226.1M), according to Box Office Guru.
I do expect it to top the box-office charts again this week, before taking on the remake of 'Total Recall' next Friday and 'The Bourne Legacy' with Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, and Edward Norton on August 10th.

Eh.....
Although I don't see TDKR reaching The Dark Knight in numbers, I wouldn't call those two competition. Then again, I could see one of them topping TDKR, but not both.
Saw it last night on IMAX. No plot, but visually amazing, my teens loved it. Place was sold out and the attendant told me they hadn't had one showing that wasn't sold out.
