I knew east alisal salinas, very well, (back in the day). I had many friends of different ethnicity. My good friend owned 'The Place' on east alisal st.

Salinas may have changed a lot by now. My brother goes shopping in Salinas, hasn't ever had a problem.

I can't speak with the same perspective as a long term resident of Carmel Valley, but I did live in Monterey for the majority of this year.

My "outsider" opinion....I loved Carmel Valley. Loved it. It's incredibly beautiful and sunny with endless places to explore outdoors. Right next to Big Sur and Monterey. Lots of beautiful wineries, restaurants (for a village), 15 minutes to Carmel and 20 to Monterey. Farmer friendly, a couple large organic farms. Safe, clean. People exceptionally friendly and welcoming--as is the whole Monterey Bay area. A very special place.

I was seriously contemplating staying permanent, however couldn't afford it...expensive. I was looking at houses to rent...fell in love with a cute little 1 BR cottage, but couldn't justify $2000/month for rent.

I hope to "land there" again someday.

Hi Travelin' bones, glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, it's a special place. I know our kids will look back on our time living here with fondness. It's a fun place for them to grow up that's for sure.
