I don't think anyone is gonna drive very well on an ICY Hill.

Thanks HawkJ. I just briefly browsed some properties in Grants pass area & they are very affordable & beautiful.Sounds like you guys are living the dream! I am still a little afraid to move too far out being that we are in our late 20s,my mom is in her 50s & has owned rural property before moving to California so she is all for it. We would just have to be able to work enough to pay for things. How far are you from the coast? I am an ocean lover, which is somewhat crippling to our real estate decisions,I would like to be within 1 hr. from the coast no matter where we live.
We buy most of our vittles in Grants Pass. We prepare fer winter & buy enuff vittles in the winter to last 2-3 months.

I'm pretty much retired now except i sell some timber now & then, & a couple other odds n ends. When the weather is bad we pretty much hibernate until it gets better.

By back road i'm about 50-60 mile from the coast. I don't drive them in the winter. The Kim family & others have gotten stuck on some of these roads in winter. Terribly it was fatal for Mr. Kim.

From Grants Pass hwy 199 is about 100 mile to the coast. I think hwy 42 by Winston is about the same.

Mr. Kim,yeah I remember that all over the news a few years ago, sad. What do you think of the Eugene area & Veneta? I was looking there cause it's closer to the coast & Eugene seems to have some work & whatnot.

The close proximity of Carmel valley to Salinas worries me a bit too,do the hardcore cholo gangsters wander over the mountain & rob & pillage or anything like that?
The gangs pick on each other, not on outsiders, not to worry.

It's like that up here too in the Roseland area & the seedy spots. Just wasn't sure if it the gangs were that much more serious or widespread down there.

I've only been to Eugene once when i bought one of my boats i met the guy at Fern Ridge Res. It was a Fun Day.
There are a few members of www.oregonfishingforum.com who live in Veneta & like it. They also fish some lakes by the coast. Check out the forum. These are real nice folks.

I get a good feeling about Roseburg, even though i only usually go there once a year, to get my physical at the VA hospital. I like Roseburg.

On the Oregon Forum Everyone says to line up a definite job before you move to Oregon.

Best of Luck Bro.

As for Oregon, I am partial to the eastern side of the Cascades, Baker is a great town.

It's very nice in the Baker area, but it's 10-20 degrees colder in winter then southwestern OR.
