Hello,
I have lived in the Santa Cruz area my entire life and am now ready for a change. We visit San Diego every six months and really love the place. I'd like my son to attend a decent high school in the area and I hear that Torrey Pines High is wonderful. Is there anyone who lives in or knows about Carmel Valley and can tell me what it's like? I already know about the housing prices which are the same as ours. We would bring our jobs with us. Thanks in advance from a new forum member who has stagnated long enough in Santa Cruz.

Best schools in the county, very affluent. Mostly large tract homes on small lots built in late 80's through mid 90's. Close to the major tech job centers.

Wink There are two Carmel Valleys in CA

To City Data Admin: Today, July 15, 2012, I received an email stating that my East Del Mar (Carmel Valley) post from 2007 was moved to the Monterey County forum. Since there is no way to reply to this email, I will reply here on the forum: please note that this post was intended for the Carmel Valley in San Diego; that is why it was placed there. Please inform your computer if you do not wish to confuse your readers. By the way and for what its worth to the readers: after living in the Santa Cruz/Monterey area for 49 years, our move to Carmel Valley in the San Diego area was the best decision we ever made.

Sunn, unfortunately the admins simply don't have time to read every message. So your best bet is to send them a direct message. Here is a thread by the admin. Simply go there and left click on their name -> send a DM.

BTW, glad you are enjoying SD. My wife is from SD and I from SoCal. Moving to Monterey has been a great move for us after 40+ years in SoCal. So I guess it comes down to personal preferences. Sometimes you can appreciate an area more when you are ready for a change to a new environment.

Derek

MtnSurfer, you are correct: it does come down to personal preferences. We have greatly appreciated San Diego's warmer weather and fantastic high school (Torrey Pines High School) for our son. Happy to hear that the MontereyBay area is a good fit for you. A lot of people seem to like the area. (We have no problems renting out our home up there.) Thanks for the link to the admin. (Perhaps they'll read my message here if I post something juicy!)
