Hi,

We are a family of five looking for a 4 bd/2bath (with yard space) preferably in Carmel Valley or a nearby small town/rural area (San Benancio/Corral de Tierra).

Besides looking on Zillow, does anyone have any suggestions for how to find homes available to rent?

Thank you!

Craigslist might have something for rent that is not on Zillow, beware of the scammers.

Google property management agencies in the area. Not just in Carmel Valley, but also San Benicio. And anywhere else within an acceptable radius of whatever is taking you there (a job, I assume). Craigslist tends to be dominated by corporate-owned real estate, whether apartment complexes, or single-family homes in developments created by corporate entities, or sfh's acquired by corporate entities during mass foreclosure events. These typically are over-priced, or advertise something reasonable to get you in, then raise the rent about 8% annually.

You can still find reasonably-priced rentals on Craigslist offered by local owner/landlords, but it takes patience sifting through all the other very repetitive listings. Even property management outfits encourage their clients to raise the rent annually. The best, most reasonable, rentals are usually offered by local owner-landlords, generally, in my observation helping renters look, and in my experience as a LL.

Good luck with your search! Let us know if you find something. It could help someone else in your shoes, in the future.
