We were looking and saw some homes with good schools in Palmetto Bay. My question, is this a nice area? Is crime low enough? How are the people? Are there good restaurants? Any information would be great!

Palmetto Bay is a great area! They do have some great schools. The only bad thing I remember is when that kid from Southwood Middle School got stabbed in the bathroom back in 2004. And when that girl from Southwood got hit by that drunk driver last year and died. The only restaurant I can think of is your typical Chili's or Applebee's. But I haven't been in that area since about 2011, so I don't know if anything has changed.

Good place to live. Not too many restaurants though. You'll have to head north towards Pinecrest or the Gables on US1. Merely a 10-20 min drive.

Palmetto bay is a very nice quiet area mostly suburbs, the restrurants are mostly on US 1 and north of you. Very good schools and lots of trees. I live just south of palmetto bay in whispering pines, so I go through your area ever day for work and back.

Another positive vote for Palmetto Bay. Lived there for more than ten years -- generally a great area. Closer to Old Cutler is nicer, closer to US-1 can be sketchy in a few pockets.

Palmetto Bay is one if the nicer areas in Miami-Dade. I would suggest living in the northern part of Palmetto Bay (closer to 136 st which borders Pinecrest) or close to Old Cutler Road like others have mentioned. The southern part close to US1 gets a little iffy.

I heartily agree. We lived just south of SW 136 St (close to Howard Drive elementary) for about 27 years and liked it.

One more thing your cops are all over the place, we Make sure to follow speed limits because they know all the local short cuts! Trust me they are all over the place and have nothing to do so good for that community!
