Maineah...coming from a CA. viewpoint, I got to tell you. I would be happy to overbid that house just to have gun friendly neighbors! First of all, land is so expensive out west that the idea of owning property is out of the reach of 99.9% of the people. Secondly, every time I pull my guns out for hunting or target shooting, I get the stare and knock on the door from concerned law enforcement. Give me the address, I'm ready for property like that.

PS how's the game herds on the property.LOL

Some time ago I posted a piece about a lady from Connecticut who moved to a quiet road in Maine. One Saturday morning she was in her back yard flower garden when at precisely 10 AM she heard a spectacular burst of automatic weapons fire. There were .50 caliber machine guns, M-60s, AK-47s, M-16s, Uzis, old time Gatling guns and numerous other full automatic weapons. The Hiram Maxim Memorial Machine Gun Shoot had begun in Sangerville, Maine.

The woman called 911 and babbled incoherently. When she calmed down enough to be understood she was told there was no deputy to come out there because most of them were at the machine gun shoot, but she was welcome to go over and watch. Life as she expected it to be was over. Her garden would never be the same again. Such is the fate of those who expect Maine to be like Greenwich, Connecticut without the traffic jams.

When they had their events, they border our gravel pit which borders Dovers town gravel pit (which my great grandfather sold to them).
My parents told me it was something to see and hear as there were hundreds of people involved. Do they still have them? I'll have to ask my family back there if it is a yearly thing still.

Well not to worry. The old neighbors have moved out. The ones I did not particularly like moved out west and the other ones moved two towns over. There are people from France renting the closest house now and they seem friendly enough and tolerant of the hunting in the area. The other house has some kids living in it ,evidently some of the owner's kids, and we hardly ever see them. Suits me fine.
