That is what can make winter hard: when you get a week or so of really bitter cold (which to me means below zero). It doesn't happen, but it can.

They dug trenches in Lincoln because the water mains froze and that was five or six feet down. They had fires at the bottom of the trenches. It could have been 1985. I'm working off what we experienced.

Long range forecast on both Wunderweather and Intellicast are pointing to a three day snow even next weekend 8-12 then 1-3 then 1-3, or 10-16 inches---even downeast.

Of course this is called winter weather fear mongering, so that people will buy winter stuff, shovels, blowers, and milk and bread. They used to rent videos but nobody does that anymore since its all available on the internet or cable or satellite.

Either we got so well conditioned last year, as our first winter, but this year seems so much easier.
I find myself daily looking for snow in the forecast.

I might eat these words, but I hope snow shows up. I know last year was insane with the amount of snow, but still... Where is it ?

After only 5 winters here, most of the serious snow usually goes north. But this year we are in a very big El Nino, which usually means the jet stream drags the snow and cold into the center of the country. And for us in down east it means that the North country gets the snow, not us on the coast.

I'm not all that sad. I might have used 3/4 of a cord of wood so far and I have about 8 cords stock piled. usually by this time I am burning all day. It starts in October with once in the evening, by December its once in the morning, then die down then a restart about 2-3 hours before bed. By January its all the time. I'm still burning at the october rates.
