About 5 inches of snow down on the St. Croix, about an inch of ice. Flurries off and on today. Went down the town garage got some sand to destroy the hockey rink in the dooryard. Funny, I used to jump out of airplanes and helicopters-now I’m afraid to slip on ice. Time marches on.

We needed to get out of the house yesterday towards dinner time.....starting to feel housebound. Couldn't find any restaurants that were open (even McDonalds was closed). It was pretty ferocious out there, so I can't blame them. Finally found out Sleepers ("since 1914") was still open and so we piled the kids into the car and off we went. It's only about an eighth or a mile away. Getting there was no problem even though it was snowing like crazy. Loaded up on groceries and headed home. It had gotten even worse and we could not get up the little hill to our house.....just then the plow headed down it. So we headed back to Sleepers, turned around in their parking lot, and by the time we got back to the hill, it was all good. Quite an adventure...

Snowiest January on record, with over a week to go. (Five inches or so coming this week).
We now have 100 inches for the season. Almost our annual average. The snowbanks at the end of my driveway are now taller than me (I am 6 feet 3 inches....)
We MAY have a shot at the record (200 inches). Need a couple big storms in February for that.

That's crazy that Boston has had less than two inches.

I have to say, it was quite comical watching The Weather Channel yesterday....broadcasting live from half a dozen places in southern NE and New York.....trying to make a couple inches to six inches sound amazing.....meanwhile up here........

I grew up Downeast and lived in the County for a few years. Currently living near Boston.

The amount of snow down here is laughable in comparison. The city I live in practically shuts down if they get six inches. Yet if the roads freeze over, they carry on driving 70-80mph on the highways. It makes no sense to me. And there's no snowbanks to aim for either- it all melts a few days after it falls.

We have 99.2 inches to date. That is actually slightly ahead of the record year (2007/2008). It is almost twice the average to date. A few more inches coming tomorrow.

The most amazing stat I saw today is that our record low snowfall to this date was only 19 inches! Unreal.

I was coming up I-95 this afternoon at 3:30 and at mile 207 it began to mist heavily. THis was a water mist and the outside temp was 18 degrees. The road instantly became like a skating rink. Nobody went off the road, but a tractor trailer skid sideways from one lane to the other. We all slowed to 45 MPH and spread out. None of us wanted to be anywhere near another vehicle. It seemed we were all experienced Maine drivers. I made it home safely. I have never seen freezing rain at 18 degrees before. I estimate the cloud base was about 1,000 feet altitude. I am a licensed commercial pilot. I called Caribou and gave them a report.

this weather has lost its mind... 14" snow- then turned to rain that made two inches of ice... Then stayed negative temps- to make a sheet of thick ice... And now today- pouring down rain- and temps in the 40's...

What the bloody heck...

If I wanted weather like this- we would have stayed in Virginia.

Water has no where to go- sump pump and sump pump in garage going..

You have Got to be kidding me...

This weather???? IN January????

Most passive Maine winter so far in the past 4 and half years !!!

On Wednesday I shoveled the roof on the ell and noticed the high roof of the main building was chock full so yesterday morning I climbed, (3 ladders to get there), to my destination which is almost 50' from the ground. Needless to say I wanted to get it done before going down. ......and dontcha' know it started pouring rain. Not impressed!
