Consolidation has passed in the county, the city, and the unincorporated county. It's a done deal as of January 1, 2014.

I am concerned about our local leaders being able to put their egos away long enough to get the HARD work done (the devil is always in the details), but I am thrilled and think this is best for the county.

The best part is that there will never be a Mayor C Jack Ellis ever again.

It appears that consolidation has been successful in Columbus and Athens. Augustans seem to be divided on whether consolidation was good.

We just went from 91000 people to 156000 people...well we will in 14 months.

What are your thoughts?

What are the possible pros and cons of this in your opinion?

CONGRATULATIONS MACON-BIBB COUNTY! I'm so proud of you! In light of the abject failure of the TSPLOST across most of the state, this speaks HUGE volumes about the progressive attitudes and enthusiasm for the future in Middle Georgia!

I'm not surprised at all that the TSPLOST failed so decisively in Metro Atlanta; hopefully this will prove to the arrogant naysayers that the "other" Georgia isn't nearly so "backward" as many think.

KUDOS TO GEORGIA'S NEW 4TH-LARGEST CITY!!!!

Oh come now Columbus Kidd! Surely you of all people can recognize what a good thing this is for Macon, seeing how it's been nothing but a good thing for Columbus-Muscogee.

Please explain?

The very depressed SE area of Macon will now be ONE UNIFIED CITY with very prosperous and fast-growing North and West Bibb County. How is this not a good thing?

Who said it wasn't good? I just said nothing will change. It will still be Macon,I'm not so sure about how strong their government will get.

And Columbus would still be Columbus had it not merged with Muscogee County.
