Even though I'm not from Macon, orignally from Columbus, I feel good overall about the election results last night. I truly believe the Mr Riechert is the right man to lead Macon-Bibb and unite people behind him. I predict Macon will be a city to watch out for in the future. With the new form of government, I think Macon can finally make use of its advantages such as its central location in the state, universities like Mercer, the newMiddle Georgia State College and even FVSU and GCSU. The big challenges though will be fixing the school district and fighting crime and blight in parts of East, West and South Macon.

I agree with Airforceguy. I am elated that not only did Reichert win, but he basically trounced Ellis. This shows that this community is not as divided as Elaine Lucas and friends would like you to believe. I think there is a new generation of black leaders such as Nikki Randall, Paul Bronson, Al Tillman, and such who see the light that working together and building on the strengths of this community is what we need to move forward. The old guard of Macon's black political leaders took it on the chin and rightfully so. Their support of Dallemand, Ellis, the Lucases, etc. is just voting by color above all else and living in the past. They have even gone so far as to oust their own young from the party if they dare speak up...see the multiple changes in leadership of the Bibb Democrats for more on that drama. (for those of you who say I am not calling out the racist whites...well most of them vacated the county years ago...there aren't too many left...) I am thoroughly impressed with the voters. They showed up with even a higher turnout than in the original primary. Overall, with the exception of Elaine Lucas, I like who was selected in each race. I do hope Adah Roberts runs again though as I think she brings a lot of new positive energy to the community...its just darn near impossible for anyone to beat Defore...he knows his district... As much as it disgusts me, Elaine Lucas knows her community as well and that is why she will have a spot in local government as long as she wants one.

It is a new day in Macon-Bibb and if the new leaders can work together, which I think they can, then much of our potential stands to be realized. Now, as Airforceguy mentioned, if we can just do something about the schools...
