There has to be a way for young families to buy in besides wealthy parents ...... 500k is too high of an asking price.

This thread is asking about Long Island. Not another state. We've identified neighborhoods on Long Island with an affordable sticker price. I suspect we will see mean reversion driven by NYC boro residents, and it will be uncontrollable by Long Island residents.

Who are these Boro residents that are going to buy out in Mastic and then commute to NYC on the LIRR? That station is > 60 miles out on the Montauk Branch. Monthly pass is more than $450.

I won’t debate most of Mid to Eastern Suffolk is more affordable. I won’t even debate it could be gentrified. But to think thousands of disenchanted Queens and Brooklyn residents are going to trade a bus or subway ride for 2+ hours EACH WAY on the LIRR is somewhat unbelievable.

I used to do several days a week from Stony Brook and it was a drag, especially on those occasions where the train was late, there was a fire in the tunnel, switching problems at Jamaica, etc. etc.

The commute from the Mastics is much easier than from the southern states.

Thankfully, for the most part, eastern Suffolk is too far for the cidots to call home while making the daily trek into the city. Sans a few brave souls. Build the wall. Make Suffolk County redneck again.

This doesn’t even make sense.

Having to fly into JFK, then take AirTrain to LIRR to subway sounds like such a hectic commute. So much easier to just take the LIRR from Mastic-Shirley, or even drive, which driving isn't an option from a southern state. I guess truck drivers do it all the time though.

But us cidots now have enough equity to buy up all of Eastern Suffolk. We'll be more than happy to fund the wall too.

In 15 years gx89 will revive this thread and mastic will still be a dump with low property values.
