Ughhhh my service is always horrible when we start to pull up to Jamaica- does anyone else have this issue? I gotta wait 5 minutes for like a website or facebook to load.
I'm impatient and want my instant gratification lol

Titus,
I just saw your post. I know this comes late but if you haven't decided yet, I have to say that your actual device makes a huge difference. My old LG flip phone was absolutely terrible with reception. When I upgraded to my Samsung Galaxy S3 in 2012, it was like night and day. The clouds parted and the sun shone on my phone. I made no change to my plan (my provider is T-Mobile). Obviously, the antenna in my new device was more powerful, not to mention data is much faster with HSPA+ (T-Mo's version of 4G). If you spend a lot of time in nyc, T-Mobile is rolling out true 4G LTE soon - probably this year; it's been tested there briefly with fantastic results, and currently in 7 different markets
If your cell plan is expiring soon or you're not on a contract, I'd recommend you wait a couple of weeks and go for a new Galaxy S4. They're in the $200-250 range on most providers. It will likely give you the best connection possible, not to mention wifi data will be great due to the dual band and AC compatibility - making it future-proof.
AT&T is fine for pretty much the whole ride into Penn Station, with a couple of exceptions. As soon as you leave Ronkonkoma, to about 4 minutes west of that (just before CI) the service is pretty much nonexistent. Also, there is no service in the East River tunnels (the only carrier that works in the East River tunnels is Verizon).
