With all respect, Taishar77, I think that you misunderstood the post from Okey Dokie (#3357) that your above quote was a response to. Okey Dokie was responding to my post (#3355). If you read my post, you'll see that I was merely refering to the fact that those who didn't get hired by CC shouldn't feel down on themselves. Casinos in Las Vegas haven't always hired the 'best of the best' and the people that haven't gotten hired shouldn't feel that they were passed over because they aren't a good as worker as you or others that have been hired. Congratulations to you for your job opportunity at CC, but I'm sure that many have been passed by that are excellent workers, too, due to the extraordinary complexities of trying to hire 12,000 people when 160,000 people applied. And your right, not just do to nepotism, but many other variables are reasons that potentially excellent employees don't get hired. No one is saying that all 12,000 people that got hired at CC knew someone on the inside to get a job there.

Default Interviewers

I, like everyone else, also have a theory: If you are interviewed by younger people (in their 20's) and you are an older person (mid 30's and older) you are in bad shape because those 20 something people hire their peirs no matter what (same age range). Sadly IT IS true.
I am in my mid 30's and I have been to several interviews for different casinos and I found out that hiring managers in their 20's have a difficult time relating to my experience and qualifications. SO it doesn't matter how much experience you have, they will hire someone in their age group if they can.
I could be totally wrong about that but that's my theory, being through a lot of interviews here for the last 2 months, I have been interviewed by mostly much younger persons than me. My best interviews were with older people, 40 and older because they can relate to me and they appreciate the qualifications and experience I have to offer.
Does anyone feel the same?
I also think most of the hiring for CC has been done for now and they are keeping people in the loop for after the opening of CC to adjust the work force according to the needs of the casino once openned.
Now what do you do? DO you retreive your application for CC and apply at another sister property, that's a personal gamble and it is a very difficult decision to make when noone really knows what's going on? Are the CC people really forwarding your resume to sister properties or are they keeping you in the loop (selfishly) to see how it goes once CC is openned and perhaps needs more employees.....or not?
If the manager for the dpt you applied has already been hired, most likely he hired the people he wanted already. If the manager of your dpt has NOT been hired yet, it is worse waiting because they pick who they want to hire...and you might be the chosen one...it is a matter of timing....
Hi DS90034.

My friend is in their mid-30s, although they appear quite young. I think that your theory has some validity. I think that all factors can effect all interviewers differently. There are books on what time of the day to interview, which days of the week, etc. What if a super qualified, excellent, perfectly experienced person for a particular job was to interview with some manager who just got off the phone after aguing with their spouse and the interviewer was in a bad mood and not paying attention to this potentially perfect employee and bam, the 'perfect' possible employee doesn't get the job. Another interviewer interviews someone on a Friday afternoon before the weekend and that interviewer is going on vacation for a few days and is in a wonderful mood and hires someone who is less than perfect because the interviewer was in a great mood and joked around a bit with the potential employee. I don't know, but it seems like there are uncontrollable circumstances sometimes. I remember reading that Tom Cruise (yes, the actor) was told by some high up lady in the movie industry that he would never make it as an actor because he is unattractive. What if Tom just walked away from acting back then?

As far as age and hiring at CC, I know another friend that was hired as a bartender at Aria and he is in his mid-40s. A Union person told my friend that CC was looking for more mature and experienced bartenders, not the 20 somethings with only a couple years experience, but who knows?

All being said, I do think that CC has done a pretty decent job of trying to pick good employees, but it doesn't mean that they got all the perfect employees. CC probably got a lot of perfect employees, but not necessary all of them. I truly think that the people that have been posting on this thread have shown a lot of support, concern and have taken time to pursue CC with much vigor to have found this thread. If CC didn't hire many on this thread, CC is missing out.

You hit the nail on the head, JEWELSINTHECITY!!!

It's getting your foot in the door! That's exactly the way my friend feels. My friend is just having trouble getting their foot in the door, for whatever reasons beyond their control! Once in, I know that my friend, and you too, would shine!

Good luck to you! I'm sure that you'll do well!

As I stated smaller brush strokes work meaning you can't sum up a situation with any one speculative post. It is unfortunate not everyone had an opportunity and they may still get one and it is also unfortunate that there may be underqualified people (when I signed my offer it was said some didn't have hotel experience which surprised me quite honestly). People have to take care when summerizing or speculating about unknown factors with the hiring process. For example, I applied for an assistant management position (I was a Front Office Manager), however, I was passed over and went back and applied for guest services. Even with my particular situation I only had a part-time offer so there are just a lot of variables that just are accounted for in people who DID get hired.

Okey responded to your post adding to it about how the Federal Government works (and I know that one too well -- it takes an act of congress to fire people and underqualified doesn't begin to address some of their issues) and thus he was quoted because he was adding to your prior assessment. Until I know people on this board personally (although some seem nice certainly) I can't assume they are great workers or great people. Majority probably are but you get the point

Just a note referring to what I've been reading. I am over 50 and have been on uemployment for a year and a half. I don't know anyone in the City Center hiring process and yet I got hired. It could be just plain dumb luck or the over fourteen years of being in the hotel business that got me hired. I got my foot in the door and I am very good at what I do and plan on being one of the best employees that CC hired. Good luck to you all on this blog site. It is CC's loss if they didn't hire you guys.

Referral questions to all:

Does anyone know if CC actually calls your personal references (not the previous employers) but the 3 personal references you listed on the application?

Thank you all.
