I initially posted this in the Nevada forum and not this sub forum,,,,I'm new to this!
My family is moving to LV-Summerlin at the end of this month. We are coming from Agony....... I mean Albany Georgia. I have read just about every thread in the LV forums, which by the way, has been a wonderful tool for learning about the LV area. We chose Summerlin after exploring LV and the surrounding areas on trip we took a few weeks ago. We found a home around Lone Mountain. Can anyone give a little more insight into this area. We have 7 in our household. My husband and I, his parents-both in their 60's, two teenagers and one 10 year old.
Remember we are coming from an area 2 hours south of Atlanta. The schools here actually remove the bathroom stall doors and have a police officer escort the children to the bathroom so they can go to the restroom without being assaulted by another student.
When we visited an elementary school in the Lone Mountain area and saw bicycles parked outside, we couldnt't believe it. Little ones actually ride their bikes to school. Holy s**t! I would NEVER let my child ride a bike to school here. Because even if they actually made it to school, the bike would be stolen within 5 mintues flat.
Any insight into the Summerlin area would be great

Summerlin is a nice area. Everything is really manicured and beautiful. Lots of parks, coffee shops, strip malls, etc. Good schools.

That said, Lone Mountain isn't quite Summerlin. It's a ways further north, but still in a nice area.

Anyway, the whole western part of the valley is pretty safe. I take my dog out on walks in the evening and always feel perfectly at ease (I'm female too).

Also, biking is pretty popular out here. Plenty of elementary school kids bike to school (usually with parents if they're young), and there are adult-level cycling teams that do marathons. Getting your kids riding bikes would be a great way to keep them in shape.

Thanks Radraja. I only remember turning onto Durango(?) and driving up, up, up. When we were at the new house we looked down at Lone Mountain and everything else. The new house is up by the end of the road. Right on a mountain. Lot's of road construction!
We loved the fact that people were actually outside...biking or walking..and all the parks....new and clean! Very nice.
