My family is moving to LV-Summerlin at the end of this month. We are coming from Agony....... I mean Albany Georgia. I have read just about every thread in the LV forums, which by the way, has been a wonderful tool for learning about the LV area. We chose Summerlin after exploring LV and the surrounding areas on trip we took a few weeks ago. We found a home around Lone Mountain. Can anyone give a little more insight into this area. We have 7 in our household. My husband and I, his parents-both in their 60's, two teenagers and one 10 year old.
Remember we are coming from an area 2 hours south of Atlanta. The schools here actually remove the bathroom stall doors and have a police officer escort the children to the bathroom so they can go to the restroom without being assaulted by another student.
When we visited an elementary school in the Lone Mountain area and saw bicycles parked outside, we couldnt't believe it. Little ones actually ride their bikes to school. Holy s**t! I would NEVER let my child ride a bike to school here. Because even if they actually made it to school, the bike would be stolen within 5 mintues flat.
Any insight into the Summerlin area would be great.

Lone Mountain and Summerlin are different places. Next to each other but different. The elementary schools in Lone Mountain vary from excellent to average. In general though it would be an area where children routinely ride bikes to school. Has more burglaries than Summerlin...about the same on violent crime. The high school would be PV or Centennial. Both are OK. There may also be a bit of Cimmaron Memorial...I would be more cautious about that school.

Thanks Olecapt. I just found the thread on the recent school shooting at PV. Sounds like Georgia. Very sad to hear this. It's very true what was posted previously. Summerlin "looks" very nice to the unknowing visitor. Good thing we ain't "blind" to the real world. Also a good thing we don't shelter our kids from the real world. There has been many "lock downs" at the highschools and middle schools for that matter, in Albany, due to some idiot bringing a gun on campus. I guess we didn't find Mayberry in Summerlin...Oh well too late, we already rented the UHAUL!

Don't sweat it. I believe you will find that "lockdowns" in PV are very rare. I am not sure there has ever been one. The particular incident was a lightning strike.

YOu are however correct in that it can happen anywhere. The probability in PV however is very low.
