If MGM did the, some of their customer base won't care a lick, some will be pissed as hell. Most of those driving in, either locals or LAers, will likely fall into the latter. It WILL cost them customers, the question is, how many, and will that lost revenue be more than the parking revenue? If Caesars doesn't fall in line, it could cost MGM a fair amount of traffic through their casinos.
Yes $3 of the AC casino parking is mandatory...but find me a casino that only charges $3 in AC. The casinos are charging a fee as I said. No matter if NJ State charges a mandatory fee the casinos are still charging their own fee...by the way a "few bucks on top" at times is as much as $20.

I would think MGM did a study and has a little more knowledge on the subject of charging parking fees on their property. I believe they wouldn't implement a parking fee if the study showed they would lose customers.

If MGM has two events going on at the same time at both arenas parking will be at a premium. Especially if a sporting event, concert and a major convention is in town at the same time. They can have a concert and college basketball tournaments going on at the same time just across the street from each other.

The biggest issue will be getting support employees.

I am sure that MGM has studied it but wouldn't be the first time bean counters were wrong. They are very good at projecting how much more revenue they will get but not very good at projecting how many customers they will lose. Bean counters understand numbers not people.

I used to go down to AC quite a bit to play poker. I never paid more than $5 to park. The extra $2 probably barely covered the expense of have to charge the fee. Then again, I usually didn't go down there super prime time or for major events.

No casino AFAIK has ever charged for self parking on the strip. Any study on it is going to be somewhat theoretical, until they actually try it.

The question becomes, what's more profitable, the parking fee, or the extra traffic through the casino. If MGM did this, I would not expect Caesars to immediately do it also. It think they'd want to get the answer to the question above first.

It is more than just paying the few dollars to park. It is also the nuisance of waiting on line to pay.

This is true and it brings up a another point. If there are lines to pay, how much gambling time will be burned by that?

I don't even want to think about what the line would be like for casinos with events, conventions, etc.

I used to get so pissed off when I worked at the Venetian. They never had enough parking for employees. Sometimes I left an hour or more early for work just to be sure I had enough time to find a spot driving to multiple lots.

The more I spend to park, the less I spend in the casino. I budget for things like this. They aren't getting more out of me with nuisance fees. At some point they will price me out and will get nothing from me.
