MGM answer to stadium parking but on a full time basis. Too bad for the everyday visitor or customer I can see if an event is happening and you have a ticket to go to it reserve parking areas charge for this but if a person is just going to the property not an event parking should be free. I am sure Valet parking will be for hotel guest only. No matter how the pie is sliced the parking issue for the new stadium is going to be a mess with many frustrated people Tropicana Ave will be a mess but this may spur a push for a monorail extension especially to the airport and surrounding areas.

Yep - people had fits over the charges for parking at some Downtown sites - but those concerns have faded as the validations/vouchers available became known. There's no indications MGM will fail their customers on this. We may learn otherwise, but at this point it's hype.

Parking isn't always 100% free downtown. We have had to pay after so many hours before even WITH validation. If I wasn't staying downtown and guaranteed free parking as a hotel guest I wouldn't go.

They do this because they know their customers will take it. Oh, they'll howl about it like scalded wookies, but in the end they'll take it. This is just like the resort fees. They'll lose a few customers over this. But the revenue will exceed the loss of their perceived "cheapskate" customers. They're actively trying to shed such people anyway. It's bad for their bottom line to appeal to the cheapskate crowd.

Station management is probably doing jumping jacks about this -- because it's going to drive business their way.

I'm surprised that MGM isn't charging employees to use the employee garage as well.

SHHHHHH! Stop giving them ideas!

There is something just odious and wrong about paying to park just to lose money!

The question is, will any of the other big properties fall in line, or will they see this as a way to steal business from the MGM properties. A big part of the casino business is about driving traffic through the casino floor. Offering free parking, which is already built and in place, when other casinos don't, is a good way to do this. The reverse is also true.

And I don't know how much the strip casinos depend on locals business. It's not their prime market, but I'm sure there are some areas that get a fair amount of their income from locals (poker, sports.) These areas are going to take a big hit. And this is going to be to the Cali drive in crowd like garlic is to vampires.

They may end up losing more than they make on the parking fees.

Just to put things into perspective, MGM will give you a token to tip the valet with if you play there.

I don't believe the story. I can certainly see charging locals to park at NYNY and Monte Carlo when the arena is in use while validating people that are actually using other amenities, especially the casino. I don't see charging everybody $10+/- a day without exception.

While locals may not gamble on the Strip much, they do go to the nightclubs, play poker, see shows and dine at the restaurants. I don't see discouraging those people either. I also don't see them charging for parking for people going to conventions on the property.

The bean counters study these things TO DEATH. They already know exactly how many guests they'll lose, and how much the parking lot will bring in.

If this goes through, it's because it has already gone up the chain, all the way to Murren. Everyone along the way looked at the numbers and signed off on the plan. As for local business, who cares? The casino execs don't really care about local business -- unless the local is named Floyd Mayweather.

The Strip is a black hole for money. The more money they can squeeze out of Californian weekenders, the better. EDIT -- The better for the casinos, naturally.

Maybe make parking free with a valid Nevada (Las Vegas area?) ID?

If and when I do venture out to the Strip, I would not mind paying for parking. That fee would be merely a tiny fraction of what we would eventually spend for an evening out on the town.
