What a bunch of suckers a lot of you are. Pay for parking is done because you need to control the demand for it. Cant believe so many of you believed someone with unnamed sources on this one. This will not happen on a 365 day basis for at least a decade. Maybe events although I am not convinced of that either.

They don't do that anymore as far as I know. (Four Queens used to do this)

Downtown has gotten a lot tighter with the "free" parking. Even with validation you could still have to pay for at least some of the time parked.

People will drive in park and spend hundreds of dollars in a casinos but complain about paying a very small amount to park...really. Yes the rumor is ALL MGM properties will start charging for parking. If this is really disturbing to you go somewhere else where they currently don't charge for parking but I'm guessing Caesars will be next. I think people on this forum forget that most people don't spend that much time thinking about Las Vegas and any parking fees at the resorts. The majority of people who come to Vegas don't rent a car, so right away the majority of tourist don't care about a parking fee. Those who rent a car and have to pay for parking most likely wont even question paying this small fee. Most people who travel to major cities pay to park their rental car at a hotel, some places like New York, San Francisco and other major cities that fee can be very high. Furthermore Caesars already charges for parking in Atlantic City, so don't put it past them to add it here as well.
I think people on this forum think everyone has the same thoughts they do when they don't. The reality of someone not staying at a MGM Resort because of a small parking fee is ridiculous for the most part.

In no particular order:

In AC, the parking fee is government mandated. The base parking fee goes to the city/state as a redevelopment fee. The casinos have been tacking on a few bucks on top.

If MGM did the, some of their customer base won't care a lick, some will be pissed as hell. Most of those driving in, either locals or LAers, will likely fall into the latter. It WILL cost them customers, the question is, how many, and will that lost revenue be more than the parking revenue? If Caesars doesn't fall in line, it could cost MGM a fair amount of traffic through their casinos.

Channel 13 news, which is our local ABC affiliate, called MGM resorts regarding future self-parking fees, and they would not deny it. If this was not true, they would immediately say the rumor is false. I am not saying it is definitely going to happen.

After my knee jerk reaction I thought it through and decided I don't care. It's a "validate my ticket" or such a small amount compared to what I carry into a casino I just don't care.

All I can say is that since MGM announced that the arena would go up, I KNEW there was no way, on this green earth that there is 'plenty' of parking.

Imagine a hoilday weekend, where there is an event at the AEG arena, the Mandalay Bay arena, MGM Grand Garden arena, and there will be NO PARKING available for locals. As it is, self park at MGM, MB, Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo are jammed packed during these times anyway.

They kept saying, "Oh yes, there will be plenty!" LOL. oh Please..

They probably will charge, and there will still be no local parking. Or they'll have to move all employee parking off site for most of these properties, which is highly unlikely.

Which is what is most laughable. The NHL hockey push paid lots to market season tickets to locals, and the sad, pathetic secret is that there will not be enough parking for locals to get to the game without walking a mile or two to get there.

Steve Sisolak was talking about it on the news and the big-money study that MGM has completed on the issue was mentioned.
