I'm a little surprised about the school bus thing. Here in NY it is the law (and very inforceable in fact) that ALL lanes stop for a school bus. No matter which side of the road you are on, or what's in the middle of the road. The only exception to this is if the bus is waiting outside a house, and if (and only if) the driver of the bus motions to you to procede.
It's only enforceable if the cops follow the ambulance/firetruck and catch you, which they have done. They will nail you if you get in their way. It is understood that with roads the way they are you might have to pull left instead of right; or just stop if that's all you can do, and let them find a way around you.

It is the law in Nevada, and probably everywhere, that traffic in both directions must stop for a school bus that is loading/unloading if they have the STOP sign on the side of the bus out and lights flashing. An exception would be when there is a tall barrier separating the bus from other side of the highway. The people in charge of busses could really help the flow of traffic if they would use a little common sense and not just take the attitude that the law is on their side. I think that whenever possible school busses should load/unload in a parking lot; and city bus stops should be in the middle of the block away from driveways and the intersection behind them. The way it is now they end up blocking traffic on both the street they are traveling on, and the intersecting street at the corner.

And here I always thought it was the powers that be up above having fun with us..they know when garbage day is so they create wind, lot's of it.

Yet more misinformed people. When people tell others to avoid North Las Vegas, they are referring to the old southern part of NLV. The crappy part. Which has nothing to do with the new part.

I have a friend of mine, bought a new house about 2 years ago. She lives on a tree lined street in a master plan community, with recreation centers, parks for children, winding trails for walking and biking. It's safe, clean, very lovely.

It's in Aliante...

IN NORTH LAS VEGAS

Right, I said unless you know where to look. I probably couldn't afford to live in Aliante.

this is what a native of Las Vegas told us. They said there are many beautiful parts but you need to know where to go. Of course maybe it was miscommunication. Thanks for the info.

I bet you could live here. Home prices have dropped a lot in the last year. You can get a nice 2000sf + for around $200,000. Last year it would have been around $300,000 or higher.
Townhomes and condo's have also dropped in Aliante. You can get a nice 2bd 2ba for around $175,000 or less. Some I have seen selling for $156,000. There are many empty one's in my immediate neighborhood.

I don't plan on buying for another year or so. I wonder how long it will stay a buyers market? I heard that Las Vegas rebounds fast.

Well, I hope it starts bouncing back sometime soon. For property values.

So, to generalize an area is unjust; ie: the crime map by zip code posted on this site; as many of the absolute best areas to live are in the "red" zone?? Kind of like, "best buffet in LV", "entertainer of the year", "97% payback on slots", etc??
