I am moving to Las Vegas, but I'm not sure what area yet. I am scared of scorpions. I have cats. Does anyone have any info or stories in regards to scorpions, scorpions in the house, and scorpions with pets? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks (or any other venomous creatures lurking, slithering or crawling around)

I have yet to see a scorpion, and I go all over the valley, and into places they would likely be. I think there are only a couple spots in Vegas where they are a problem, the majority of the valley seems to be scorpion free. At least in my experience. I actually look for them, too, to photograph.

Some of these guys swear they have scorpions. I've lived here 50 years and have seen only five or six in all that time. My wife came running to tell me we had one in the hallway the other day. It was a harmless sunspider that got lost. Hadn't seen one of those since the mid-sixties.

My advice....don't worry about scorpions. They don't kill you anyway. They just hurt if you get stung. But since that's not likely, don't borrow trouble, as I said in an earlier post.

When I first moved here I brought with me an unreasonable fear of snakes. Any snake to me was going to chase me down and kill me. But, since I love the outdoors, I had to do something. So I learned as much as I could about snakes, and that took the fear away. When we found a tiny one "drowning" in the soft dust of a dirt road, I picked it up and tossed it in a creek to wash it off. My wife nearly fainted. She thought aliens had occupied my body. That's when I knew I was cured.

Anyway, when in the boondocks, I'm usually the one to spot critters first, and I've seen even fewer snakes around here than scorpions. It's nothing to worry about. BTW: If your cat ever did find one it would probably kill it.

Google scorpions and educate yourself.

I have seen 2 snakes so far, 2 black widows, and 0 scorpions. I too tend to be the first to spot animals.

One of the major reason why people like it here so much is that we have almost no creepy crawly things. They actually have more in New York than we do.

They are more prevalent in areas with lots of palm trees.

Can't speak for Vegas, but there has been reports of Bark scorpions (the kind you should be worried about) in Madeira in Anthem and Green Valley, both located in Henderson. Lots of Black Widow spiders pretty much all over but they are much easier to control.

I have read and been told that cats kill scorpions. Also, cats tend to not get stung by them due to the thickness of their skin, the stinger just can't pentrate.

are scorpions really that "deadly" unless you have a proclivity to an adverse reaction to it's venom?

Still no scorpions or spiders here at my house in Green Valley. I did see a cricket, a rat, and some birds, though
