Bark scorpions are NOT deadly to humans.

I saw a coyote last night running across Hollywood.

I'm moving into a new house in The Club at Madeira Canyon in a few months. I hope the scorpion problem isn't too bad. Anyone else have any input about this area? I've lived in Green Valley for 24 years and have never seen a scorpion.

use the search tool above with the word 'scorpion' and you'll bring up lots of information.

I developed a scorpion problem back in late June and found useful info here, then I posted to find out about chemicals to use and got even more info.

I've heard of scorpions in Spanish Trail, Green Valley and in the Mountains Edge community. I saw a couple when I was a kid while my community was still being built but haven't seen any since then.

I've seen a rat recently, and plenty of cockroaches. Saw a tarantula once on a side road burrowing in the rocks near my community while I was out walking, about 2 years ago.

I haven't seen a scorpion yet after my first year of living here. I am a little concerned that the wood mulch I put around my new landscape trees and shrubs might provide habitat for them, but no signs yet.

We had scorpions in our Summerlin house (searching for "scorpion" keyword in the board history will pull up plenty of threads with my and others stories), and get them at work in Green Valley. None spotted in Centennial Hills yet, but we have had to kill wasps. If you're worried, get a pest control person to spray every month or two, and that will control any and all creepy crawlies.

About cats, my cats actually loved finding scorpions. Cats are faster than scorpions and their fur is thick enough that scorpions aren't a big threat to cats. They were sad when I would take their new toys away!

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I have read everything I could find on this subject, but I wanted to get more current info. I will be moving to your city soon. I have read all the posts about neighborhoods, but I am looking to buy a house under $100,000. I know that I will be priced out of the best areas, but does anyone have any suggestions?

A house for under $100,000 ?

Having just gone thru the home search and purchase this year, good luck finding a decent home in a decent area for that price! maybe a condo or townhouse, but even then.

My suggestion is to get your approval letter from the bank, then drive around to look at EVERY area in the valley. When you settle on a few areas that you like, work with a realtor.

You might be better off waiting a year until you qualify for a bigger mortgage and can get a home you'll be happy with, and be safe.

Sign up for "nextdoor". Several postings on scorpions in this area. Very painful sting and can cause health problems for young and older people especially

Thanks. I don't think I can sign up for that neighborhood until I have something linking me to that address. They are just about to pull the permits so they can start construction so all I have is the contract right now. I will sign up for nextdoor as soon as I can.
