Yes, but the locals places, at least, need to keep them coming back. This means people have to eat the food, and actually like it. The prisoners are, well, a captive audience.

People gladly eat sawdust and dirt. Not kidding, both of those ingredients are in a lot of food.
If you smelled hotdogs, without all the artificial smells and flavors, you'd be unable to choke it down if you were starving on a deserted island for 6 months. Americans have been eating crap for a long time and are used to it. As long as you salt and or ketchup it, Americans will eat it.

If I am going to pay $12 for a burger than you will find me at a Slater's 50/50. But chances are you wont find me paying $12 for a burger.

just tell em you carry plastic...or do what a buddy of mine does...ask THEM for a dollar before they ask you.

"Hey man, can you spare a dollar?"

The reaction is pure entertainment.

Ha! This reminds me of when my youngest brat was interviewing with the Epicurean Charitable Foundation for his scholarship. They asked him what his vision for food was, and he said, " I want fresh ingredients prepared right. I currently work at the Palace Station buffet and we use a bunch of low-quality frozen foods. I want to get away from that."

The interviewer looked at him and said with a wry smile "(brat's name) I want you to meet such-and-such. he's one of our judges, and is the food and beverage director for Station Casinos."

Most people would have wanted to drop through the floor. Youngest brat just smiled and waved at the F&B director. He got a 50k scholarship.

I'll pay $12 for a burger meal, but it had better be pretty good.

Before you make some statements like that, I would suggest that you check out the stuff served in most state prisons. It is not remotely edible in most cases.

Are you speaking from experience? (And I'm not asking sarcastically.)

In terms of food cost it goes like this: casual dining (chain restaurant), prison food, university/retirement food, cheap buffet food, dog food. Prisons and universities don't have to make a profit on food. Casino buffets do. Even the worst buffet in town is running in the black. Consider that if you are ever unfortunate enough to eat at Joker's Wild or Arizona Charlie's.

The cheap buffets are using tons of oil and salt. The mantra of these places is, "Salt it like you ain't eatin' it."

I can. And I can tell you from that personal experience that you're FOS. You'd be much better off posting about subjects in which you have a modicum of knowledge or experience rather than talking out of your rear orifice.

Well, Back to burgers. I've read good things about Fat Boy at Lamb and Stewart. We're actually gonna go check it out this weekend.
