The smoke bothers her less than the humidity. And, honestly, the smoke here isn't very bad. Everywhere we go, even if smoking is allowed, is well ventilated. So it hasn't come up as an issue.

wow sounds like Vegas is very nice, wiki says Vegas is really growing for retirement communities and a nice city to raise family.

so what are some things that you don't like about Vegas? I would love to hear some, pretty sure there are some negatives about it.

I love Vegas. I really do, except for the traffic. I hate traffic with a passion. There is quite a bit that could be done to fix that problem.
I love the over the top strip, I love how everything is close by. I love the scenery around the city. I love the lake and canyons. I love the weather. I love all the things going on. For example I got to ride, with a professional driver, in a corvette zr1, around a track for free. I got to drive a bunch of new cars around a track for free. There is so much to do here it's crazy.
I love all the random **** the happens. An elvis impersonator geting pissed off, throwing his wig, and chasing someone down the strip. HILARIOUS.
Every band I like (who's members aren't dead) are playing, or going to be playing here. 7 miles from my house. That's ****ing awesome.
I can get on a plane and fly anywhere in the world, 20 minutes from my house.
I can go climb a mountain 10 minute from my house.
This place is great.

There are a lot of druggies, homeless, losers, etc but for the most part it's an interesting collection of every type of human on the planet.

Wow sounds like you really love the place, now are there anything you don't like at all, or things you hate about the city?

so nice how did you get a ride along in the zr1? and how did you get to drive a bunch of new cas around a track for free?

also very helpful other info! can get on a plane and fly anywhere, the airport is so closeby for everyone huh. I guess normally if you live so close to airport the real estate will be much higher especially for an international airport.

hiking is it popular over there? lots of mountains around to climb huh?

For bands I guess it applies to very popular bands too? or famous singers and other famous people as well, once awhile they will perform in Vegas...that sounds pretty interesting.

However outside of Vegas within 2,3 hours there ain't much stuff right? some small towns and mostly desert? but of course there is socal, LA after 3 hours or so.

I haven't done my research yet but is Vegas' economy mostly from the casinos? and not much else other big businesses/companies, so if tourism is down it will affect the economy greatly, if a city only got 1 major source of economy source and later there are changes then the city gonna go back to a desert town? but vegas is vegas that probably won't happen?

Also got a general question about moving, I am looking up houses in zillow/trulia etc and how do you know if the neighborhood is good, average, or bad? (not just Vegas I mean anywhere, I am picking a place to move to) The house looks nice but there is no info about the neighborhood so I really want to find out about this. Also anyway to find out if the area is going down/up? thanks guys

Hi EllaTea! The pics you posted are nice, very nice. What I'm saying is that in the everyday life of the average person who lives in the SW, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

Cactus and sand is what the average person sees everyday in the SW...and again, it is nice if one likes cactus and sand!!! Me? Well, I prefer the vegetated landscape, rivers, cows grazing in nearby fields, etc!

Thanks thou, you made a great point!

Living in NYC, and having driven all around the Las Vegas Valley at times when one would expect traffic, I can safely say that people living in Vegas don't have any idea what real traffic is. I'll put you westbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway @ 5:30 PM on a weekday, and they you'll know from real traffic

What I loved about living in Las Vegas was the huge number of restaurant and shopping choices. I also loved the desert landscape and the dry air. I will take 110 in Las Vegas over 95 in Nashville any day of the week. What I didn't care for? The homeless population that would approach in parking lots etc begging for money.

Agree completely. Anyone complaining about Las Vegas traffic has not experienced an L.A rush hour. The only substantial back ups I have been involved in are the result of accidents.

You've asked this twice & it's starting to sound like you're baiting someone or the board in general. Like anywhere else, Las Vegas has its good & bad points. If you're a drug addict, alcoholic, have a gambling problem or personality traits along those lines it probably won't be a good place for you. If you're unhappy now, coming to Las Vegas expecting it to fix that is unrealistic. Beyond that, a quick use of the 'search' function will find you countless threads listing peoples' negative comments about Las Vegas, there are some people for whom it seems like a sport.

I've been happy to see the positive stuff said so far. Overall, I enjoy Las Vegas while knowing its limitations. The weather's great, it's an affordable place to live, there are a lot of great restaurants & entertainment (thanks to tourism), the nearby scenery is beautiful & a lot of enjoyable natural treasures are nearby. You've got a few large cities within driving distance (LA, San Diego, Phoenix) & the airport's accessible enough that it's easy to fly a lot of places from here.

This +2. Having come from Chicago (where the 15 mile trip from the city to O'Hare could take up to 2 hours ANY TIME OF DAY), traffic here is a breeze. Sure, it still gets frustrating when they plan poorly for road construction & I have a 5-10 minute delay, but then I remind myself "at least it's not Chicago".
