Yeah, we eat out 7 nights a week. With coupons, comps and Happy Hour specials, we don't spend much. It may be $400 max.

I am planning on relocating with my family next month to las vegas, I know 8 people who have moved there and remain there, doing much better than they were here in Bakersfield Ca. No jobs here especially if you're not a spring chicken any longer, even making good money here in Bakersfield if your credits not great, you can be homeless,
In Bakersfield no one cares. So I am ready for a change, been too long struggling.

Cause no one will rent to you.

Cause no one will rent to you, and you have 1 strike already if you're black,

So what if you had enough money saved up for rent for six months? And then moved and got hired as a host or a waitresses etc?

Yikes to the original starter of this thread. $2,500 "saved"? I wouldn't call that savings. I would call that barely enough for one negative thing happening like your fridge breaking or your car needing repairs. If you have a job where you are, you should be saving real money before moving anywhere. In general, just in life, not for moving, you should have a minimum of a year's worth of expenses saved. If you spend $40,000/year on your cost of living you should have that in the bank, ready for tough times. If not, you're simply not prepared and not living within your means. Or you're 18 years old.

Good for you! I'm a positive one, but you do need to do your homework. I do agree that many end up going back to where they came from. Good riddance. Many have drug issues, lost their shirts gambling, etc.

Hotels here do drug tests. Some locals or recent movee's can't pass.

I'm having a hard time believing someone who is a teacher wouldn't be hired STAT?

I think you said your moving in August? Have her get on the sub lists.

This is a addicts heaven. What ever you are looking for, you'll find it. People forget about shopping as an addiction too.

There are lots of people here who from other locations who are success stories. Come prepared and open minded and you can be one too.

Right now construction needs people. Health care, YES! Memory care giver - go to the Ruvo Center for Brain health. They might be able to help you.
Anyone here with any brain issues, goes there. Lots of retired rich people here. Came here to get away from LA and save on state taxes.

OP Just read you are 25. If you are good looking, can show up on time, and can pass a drug test, you'll be OK.

Are you gambling? Nothing wrong with that but your losses you should figure into your food costs. That is how you got the comps.

When we first moved here we ate out 7 nights a week. It got old real quick. And wasn't that healthy. Plus my husband loves my cooking.

OP - gambling, be very careful here. People that 'win' never count into how much they lost before winning.
My book keeper does it but has a cap of $20.00 once every two weeks. And if she wins, she is gone from the casino. Most she won this way is $180.00 But yes a couple times she has lost the $20.00

Come on, folks

The OP has a history of 21 posts, all to this one thread, dated almost 4 years ago. There are far more current and redundant threads on moving to Las Vegas.

if this has been mentioned, please excuse.

Try 'Beyond Career Alert' for job listings. You can list industry, type of job etc.

You're asking the same type of questions over and over, and resurrecting an old thread is not going to change the answers and advice you are receiving.

There are jobs here. You need more than rent money. You need food, utilities, transportation saved. My daughter (26) moved here and got a job after a month, but had to wait a month for fingerprints background check, reference verification, and completion of several state-mandated classes for the type of work. Add a month before the first paycheck and you basically have a 3 month gap between getting here and your first income. Of course, that will vary with the job and your hustle to get that job.

You would do better as a server if you have experience. Someone will take a chance on you if you show up dressed somewhat professionally. First impressions count. I ran across a GM of a local chain restaurant and he was hiring. I talked to a casino GM who said the F&B managers were always seeking people. He even told me he wanted to meet my daughter and introduce her to some F&B folks. She doesn't work F&B anymore, but it was on the table for awhile when she got here.

I don't have any juice here, but being polite, engaging, and helpful occasionally opens doors--if you have these qualities, your networking will work on someone.

Save enough to rent, eat, and get around for at least six months. Good luck.
