However, Aliante, the new developments around golf courses down Craig Road, Simmons, etc...they are great areas/neighborhoods being brought down only because they are considered "northtown," but in essence they are good areas. Would I live there? If I was looking for a house on the market, I would, but my restriction would be wanting a home built in 2000 or later. Many of these areas mentioned in Northtown, so on so forth, were built in the 1950s, 60s....The cost of remodeling and upkeep on those old bad-boys makes me cringe - forget the area around them! Like a car, I would look for a "newer model" home. Area? These days I have adopted a simple mind - if they can't afford it, it will be foreclosed. Undesirable moving in? Only temporarily.

Do you even know where Northtown is???

I've lived in NLV for the past year now,and it's not bad at all. Prior to moving here, I used this site to research the areas, and word of mouth. I'll always remember one of the guys, on this site, stated that as long as you live west of the 15 and north of Craig, it's okay. I agree. I love where I live. It's quite and I haven't see any problems. I work down close to the strip, and that is much worse. For those that are contemplating moving here, I would suggest that prior to, come here and drive around the areas, both day and night, you are considering. Everyone is going to have their own opinion.

So, five years after the last answer and having gone through one of the worst housing crisis in the nation has North Las Vegas come out better? Is that old negative image still haunting the city?

There is a lot of NLV hate on this thread and it was interesting to re-read the posts. Many areas that people were raving about 2008 did take a dump and are now probably considered not that desirable, even by "new' NLV standards. But yes, it still does have an image problem, but undeservedly so.

Most locals have a different answer to what the city of NLV is. We still have members who think the old west side is NLV, or that areas of Centennial are part of NLV. But I understand.

Northwest is a good spot, and that is about it up there, but that is not North Las Vegas. If I had to pick a spot in North Las Vegas, It might be around Eastern/Civic Center. You have a lot of good shopping there, a good hospital (North Vista), Police force there, the library, and good casino called Bighorn with good/cheap food, and a lot of good Mexican restaurants.

Good grief. That area is where NLV got it's bad rep in the first place.

It didn't come from Eldorado, Aliante, or the area around Winco. That Winco is in the city of North Las Vegas.

WinCo is right on the edge, but still in Las Vegas. The Walmart shopping center right there is also Las Vegas, but Triggs Elementary just behind it is North Las Vegas. I agree with your point though.

You're right. The other side of Decatur is NLV.
