Consolidated Facility Chg 3.75/day $52.50
Concession Recovery Fee 10 Pct $42.61
Clark County Tax 2 Pct $7.86
Vehicle License Fee 2.35/day $32.90
Sales Tax (8.10%) $31.85
Nv Gov Surchg (10.0%) $48.83
Looked again at Orbitz. The rate with all of that tacked on is still approx $21.83 per day + gas if you were to book today. (it's been cheaper) If you search individual companies it's a lot more. (I've been researching and watching rates for about 6 weeks as I will be renting a car myself at the end of this month)

I hear ya about drinking and driving, not worth the risk. But I still say that if you want to do day-to-day errands like pick up some take out or go food shopping I wouldn't want to do that in a cab.

Almost all credit cards cover the insurance if you put the rental on your card, most people don't know this but I have done it a bunch, call your credit card company and check with them.

Do you know anyone in Las Vegas who would be willing to be your on call driver?

I like that idea and have been contacted by a fellow that's a part-time driver through this site. It's not so much the cost but the responsibility of renting that I really don't like....I would rather spend that money on a tip for a driver if they can get me and hubbie around and back to the airport on time to catch our flight home. If need be, in the daytime, we can walk to Sams Town or Boulder Station if it isn't too hot and try to get a cab to the Strip or downtown areas but it sure would be nice to have someone on call.

Don't laugh ElleTea, but on Saturday afternoon I saw people arriving at the 99cents only store on Spring Mountain via a taxicab

Exactly....With the busses taking so long (at least when I mapquest/googlemap routes) why wouldn't I want to taxi it everywhere like residents in NYC, USA and Vancouver, CA etc. (my hometown city)? It's so hard to believe that cab companies don't want the local and off-strip business. Maybe it's because they take so long to service local addresses it never got started in the first place and somebody with JUST service to anyone NOT on the Strip would work...I think so...hmmmmm

been there, done that.....the companies wont do it....the locals wont do it... then the company that PROMISED to service only the locals, goes whining to the Taxi Authority sayin "WAAA we can't make it unless you let us service the airport, but we PROMISE we'll keep servicing the locals....

BTW....SERVICE when breeding livestock or in a taxicab has a slightly different meaning

Check out this site for auto rentals. Book a rental through their site, and they will watch for lower rates and automatically rebook at the lower rate. I've personally had great success with them.
