I can take whatever I want at the EDR. Fill my plate wide and high with inexpensive food. And then I can turn around, swipe my badge, and do it again, and again.

We can eat three times per shift if we want -- before our shift, during our break and after our shift. No. Charge. Ever.

My strategy for the EDR is simple -- cook as much of my own food as possible. If there's bacon, I make a BLT. If there's baked chicken (almost always safe), I pull the meat off, mix it with a little Caesar dressing, and parm, and make a chicken Caesar sandwich.

I make a LOT of sandwiches in the EDR. It's cut down on the EDR Dash. Also, I think I eat better food that way. But damn I miss my salads.

Am I the only one who sees no problem with this? I have never had a job that gave me free food, and that even includes the fast food restaurants (Jack in the Box, Car'ls Jr) which charged 50% off menu price for food. At my current job's dining room all we have is overpriced vending machines. That being said, I would be very grateful to get a free hot meal everyday, even if there was an $8 limit.

It is better than nothing, they are offering free lunch..but hopefully for the sake of casino employees other properties don't follow that trend.

Consider how many THOUSANDS of people a casino employs.

If the casino doesn't provide lunch/dinner/whatever the hell it is we eat at 3 a.m. -- where will they store all the brown bags? Who is going to clean the banks of refrigerators? Who's liable if someone's week old cheese molds over and makes 1,000 people sick?

Also, what do you think the health dept. would have to say about 2,000 people bringing food of unknown provenance into a casino?

So, the only option is an employee dining room. And since meals HAVE to be eaten in the EDR (Workers have no choice in the matter. They are not allowed off property on their break -- that TOO is a liability issue), the casino should pick up the tab.

Why would you continue to eat food that makes you sick?

Because the choices are (for anyone not upper-middle management or higher):

1) Eat in the EDR.

2) Don't eat until your eight-hour shift is over.

If nothing else, there's always bananas. Hard to get sick from one of those.

Pack your own lunch. I did it everyday at my stint at the GN downtown. There EDR was pure crap in my opinion. On my lazy days I would get a sub across the street at the 4Q.
