What isn't there to do. First, what sort of outing is it: family vacation, friends, etc. Second, what do you like to do: gamble, eat, outdoor stuff, etc. The options are really too high to count. The New Year's celebration on the strip is a huge deal, though, kinda like the Times Square of the west.

Lets all just meet up and party like it is 1999.

Ethel M in Henderson. The display of lights there is fantastic, well worth the trip for locals or visitors.

If you are looking for festive activities I would suggest:
The Conservatory at Bellagio is free and really a festive display of flowers and decoration.
Fremont Street's light show has a Christmas theme/music display over the holidays
We really enjoyed the Nevada Ballet Company's "The Nutcracker" at the Paris Hotels theatre

Ethel M is actually on the Mesa (aka Whitney Mesa) just to the east of where Mountain Vista St and Sunset Road meet. The garden at Christmas is a must do with a cup of Ethel's hot chocolate.

Opportunity Village is the other big attraction. Kind of fun and homey.

Then you wouldn't want to miss the Atrium at Bellagio. That's good for almost every season and holiday. All the hotels have displays.

Sam's Town Mystic Falls Park is very nice. There's a free show. http://www.vegasnews.com/35235/sam%E...-24-jan-2.html

There are a couple of parades of boats decked out for Christmas. Lake Mead is the big one of course; but The Lakes also has one. You'll actually be a lot closer to the boats at The Lakes, but the boats are small and electric powered.

Although I don't remember ever going, Cowboy Christmas is very popular: NFR Experience

Fashion Show Mall really comes alive, although it's pretty busy most of the time. So is The Forum Shop Mall at Caesars Palace. And the Venetian has a lot going on including ice skating in front of the hotel on LV Blvd.

And there is ice skating on Fremont St, and at Lake Las Vegas.

I plan to take a trip to Vegas from Dec. 26th - 29th in which I'll pretty much stay on the strip. I haven't been to Vegas since around 2005. I know, it's right after Christmas, but I'm trying to spend enough days there to be back home to avoid the whole New Year's crowds. How hectic will it really be during the time I'm there?

I'm seeing a Cirque du Soleil show for sure & eating at a couple of buffets! I want to find another good show or tennis event. Any ideas? I'm a huge tennis fan. One time, I went to see a pro match at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. In the past, I've also seen David Copperfield at the MGM Grand. What activities/fun things are there at each hotel besides the shows?

Wow.

I always wanted to start a 'dead pool' of sorts on here, trying to find the longest time between a thread going 'dead' & getting revived. This one ain't close, well over six (6) YEARS!

How does one find a thread that old? We outta have some kind of award, maybe name it after Buzz or Dyn cuz they're, um ... experienced and wise. I mean that with all due respect ...
