See if the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is performing during the holidays. I took my family there for part of their Christmas present one year (when we lived there) and it was hilarious to watch them go from "omg mom's making us go to an orchestra symphony" to "OMG MOM THIS IS GREAT!"

We also used to go up the Mt. Charleston after opening presents. Take a camp stove, water and hot choc. mix, and tea bags. Stand by car and make non-stop cups of steaming drinks while kids slide around in the snow. those were the days.

Cowboy Christmas, now that's when I said OMG because it was my favorite thing at the holidays. Your mileage may vary if you weren't raised on a cattle ranch.

Forever Blue: Hotel room costs really go up on the 28 and more on the 29th leading up to NYE. We have stayed for NYE once and didn't find it too crowded until the 30th and then it was crazy.

Opportunity Village is the other big attraction. Kind of fun and homey.

Then you wouldn't want to miss the Atrium at Bellagio. That's good for almost every season and holiday. All the hotels have displays.

Sam's Town Mystic Falls Park is very nice. There's a free show. http://www.vegasnews.com/35235/sam%E...-24-jan-2.html

There are a couple of parades of boats decked out for Christmas. Lake Mead is the big one of course; but The Lakes also has one. You'll actually be a lot closer to the boats at The Lakes, but the boats are small and electric powered.

Although I don't remember ever going, Cowboy Christmas is very popular: NFR Experience

Fashion Show Mall really comes alive, although it's pretty busy most of the time. So is The Forum Shop Mall at Caesars Palace. And the Venetian has a lot going on including ice skating in front of the hotel on LV Blvd.

And there is ice skating on Fremont St, and at Lake Las Vegas.
I lived in LV for 19 years and never knew they had so many nice attractions for Christmas!

But now you do, so no head smacking is in order.

I really enjoy the Opportunity Village displays at Christmastime. I'm a sucker for funnel cakes and hot chocolate, and I really like the creativity that many put into their displays.

I have also seen the boats out at Lake Mead. Very pretty. Bring a coat.

I'm sure the Springs Preserve will also do something cool next month. (Can you believe that it's going to be December next month?)

We have spent two Christmases in Las Vegas. We have three adult children, two of those are married. Before any grandchildren came along, we all came out there. We had family celebrations at home before or after our trip. Now that the little ones are here and the careers are consuming their lives, we likely will not do Christmas in Las Vegas again, at least for some time.

Consider this: how many of us with adult children can ever get everyone together for four days at a holiday? Can you? Without going to Las Vegas, this never would have happened for us. So, in a way, going to Las Vegas at Christmastime proved to be the best holiday alternative going. While I absolutely agree with previous posts about the true meaning of Christmas, isn't a family celebration in keeping with that spirit as well?

brdd, totally agree. We'll be in Las Vegas for 4 days leading up to Christmas day. It's the only time our son can spend time with us, so instead of buying more "stuff" for Christmas, we're meeting in Las Vegas to reconnect and have fun. We'll celebrate the religious holiday when we return. No longer into being told what to do and when to do it.

Bellagio casino is decorated beautifully. Las Vegas would still be worth a visit during Christmas time. Definitely can't use the pools(it will be too cold and they won't be open), but the hotels and casinos are out of this world and awesome. As first timers, you'll have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
