I went to McCoy at 1010 S Pearl in Independence beginning with kindergarten in 1946. It was a school named after William McCoy, the first mayor of Independence, who was also a slave holder--although we did not know that at the time. Shucks, we did not even know who he was at the time, chuckle. That school was built around 1913 and is still there although it now holds a private music and art institute.
