Ok then I am not so crazy. A feed store at South and Crysler is where I remember Antoine's In 1961 it was listed as the Jones Feed Store and also had a rental business.

They may have lived somewhere in the area after the left Alabama, but not sure of that. I was also wondering when they closed. Dale Williamson was the father who owned City Block and I would imagine the ownership went to his wife when he died. His son Carl ran the business after he died, but I think he sold it in the 1980s or 1990s. He may have taken over the ownership when his mother died. The older Williamson son, J.D. became a judge.
I knew JDW but did not know his family was associated with City Block, a great place to throw snowballs at cars as they traveled down the hill westbound on 24

Yes, I knew Jack and visited his store a number of times. Nice guy!

The feed store was on the opposite corner from his store; the small block building, which now houses a construction company.

I should have remembered Stewart Sand and Gravel. Perhaps I was having a mental BLOCKage!

The mention of JD Williamson reminded me of him and several of The Square lawyers (and yes, several were squares) playing in my softball league in the Summer of 1978. Most of them had offices on Kansas or Lexington

One of my teammates was Sam Cottingham, who perished in the Hyatt collapse, July, 1981 I will never forget leaving work downtown and leisurely tuning in to KY102 and instead of music, hearing the panicked reporting from a newsman on the scene.

Years later I read in-depth on the net about the collapse and that's how I learned about Sam. He had been a long time attorney for the City of Independence. His obituary mentioned he was ordering a drink at the bar under the walkways. It also said he founded the Queen City baseball league. I never knew that.

Wikipedia stated that the Hyatt was the biggest structural collapse in history until 9/11

I remember that day well. I was umpiring a cub scout baseball game when we were told about it. I hurried home to watch it on TV. I had a friend from work who lost her ex-husband in that disaster. It was terrible.

Aw, but Stewart Sand did not own the block company that sat on the hill behind where it was. Still need to know who owned it, when did it open, and when did it close?

For clarification for MRG, that feed store and Antoine's were not at the same location.

As for Jack Totty, he was a very nice man. His wife was Helen. In the late 1970s, they lived on North River at Nickel. (if I have that name correct). It is the east-west street that ran on the north side of the CMSC Residence Center behind Truman Library. We had watched fireworks from their deck off the back of the house one Independence Day. I went to high school with his son and with the young lady he married. They and my in-laws were best of friends.
