A bit off-topic, but to warm up the thread a little:

My cuzzin, who is pushin 70 grew up near the old Montgomery Ward's building in NE KC. He said recently that he and his buddies recall WHB having "American Bandstand" esque LIVE broadcasts from Wards on Sat mornings. DJs spinnin, prizes, kids dancing and hanging out.

Although I pride myself on my Oldies nowlege, et al, I sure don't recall this. He thinks it was 63-to 65 era, give or take a year. Not sure how long it lasted either but he insists it happened.

Anyone?

It must not be too bad. The entire western portion of the plant is now green, part of that is the new home for Sugar Creek Police and Fire.

Seems like I recall them skimming off a lot of the soil and incinerating it in a small plant built for that purpose.

Ah yes.....that stench in the air, along with the roar of he midget race cars at Olympic Stadium in the distance....

I am fairly certain that I have not previously posted this. How many of these businesses do you remember?

And, if you are old enough, remember this one. Did this put a smile on your face?

I remember most of them, although many I didn't know until they were gone. I even patronized some of them!
