I'm hanging out up at Chrisman today to help a couple teachers. I have to say that I'm kind of flipping out about the Ott section of the building. They just don't build schools like they used to.

I like the way the new commons area wraps around old Ott, and that they have the historical marker there. I had a few classes in that portion of the building, but back then almost three sides of Ott were outdoors.

I vaguely remember some one mentioning that Palmer was used as a high school at one point. I can’t figure out why, but the 63-64 yearbook mentions that some freshmen were housed at Palmer.

I don't think it was ever a high school, but it did have freshmen for some years. For a while , Independence had K-6, 7-9 then 10-12. I was at Palmer my Freshman year.

Way back in the first part of the 20th Century the High School was adjacent to the Junior High. I forget what year it moved down the block.

On Wednesday last I had the opportunity to tour the new Independence Emergency Communications Center (aka 9-1-1 or dispatch) located on part of the old MCI property. It is a very nicely done facility that is built with the dispatchers comfort in mind. Back in my day each dispatcher had one monochrome computer monitor, and all computer inquiries were input from a command line. Now each dispatcher has 7 full color monitors covering everything but HBO! Each dispatch position even has its own mini-climate control system with variable fan speed and temperature selection. Their new chairs are nicer than any I've ever had. I'm sure they will enjoy the new facility.
