Thanks. This was not a newsworthy event; except to me. If I ever get to the library, I will find it and post it here.

Sponsored by Motor Trend magazine, there was no time specified for the departure but it had to be within the last couple months.

The April 2018 issue of Motor Trend features a two-page color photo of the Chicago & Alton train station flanked by the wagons that went west. In this case, the wagon train consisted of a 2018 Volkswagen Gulf, 2018 Subaru Outback, and a 2018 Buick Regal, all station wagons.

The 11-page article titled “Wagon Train” and a smaller article, “Tackling the California Trail,” consist of the wagons leaving Independence with a destination of Sacramento, California via modern day roads that parallel closely the old trail.

There are several photos that appear to be from inside the National Frontier Trails Museum and there is a mention of the Bingham-Waggoner Estate.

The author states that more people left Independence for California than Oregon.

Magazines in print are harder to find nowadays, but I finally located a copy yesterday. I shared it with some friends who are on the Board of Directors for the Depot. They were very pleased and surprised, as they knew nothing about the photo shoot. Judging by the shadows in the photo it was done in the late afternoon early this year, as the trees are bare and all Christmas decorations are gone.

Kansas City Times, December 26, 1953, the westward one-day direction for Truman Road lasted about 12 years until the street became two-way.

Up to the Independence Square, of course! Or I could be busy planting a garden and opening the pool while waiting for someone to ask a question I can answer.

I'm HERE (lurking)

Hey, can WCHS or MAD (or anyone) take this photo and lighten it up? As some of you know, that's my "part-time hood" as a kid and I'd love to be able to see more detail. Also the youngsters here might want to see what the south side of Maple looked like back then before the houses were leveled

My pool's been "open" for 24/7 (even on Christmas and holidays), especially since we splurged for a new heater as the last customer of the retailer for 2017. So come on down!

Default "Fort Osage" Tonite on GRIT TV

Anyone hear of this movie before? 1952 or 53 as I recall the guide, while channel surfing today. According to IMDB, none of the filming locations were outside of California, and the plot seemed a little shady, but I've set the DVR for 230 Eastern just in case there's some edited in shots of our favorite local fortress

Anyone remember the last day of skool when the moms would bring picnic lunch and class closed and we all spent the day at the Fort or Swope Park Zoo?

WhattaWay to kick off the summer!
