That was a planned pioneer village to be built in Slover Park in the sixties. It would have been a replica of Independence in the trail days.

It is a shame that it never came to be. The Jackson County Historical Society came out against it because of their Missouri Town project.

Is someone trying to revive this effort?

Close enough! It was planned for just south of Slover Park. It would have been along the east side of Delaware from College to US 24 Highway. The plan was to use the bulldozer power of Urban Renewal to clear the land. The village would have featured the first Jackson County Courthouse, which the city owned at that time, along with a gristmill, RR depot symbolizing the Wayne City line, and the usual pioneer structures.

A bond issue was put to the voters in December, 1962. The voters said no.

I brought this up because I saw a full page newspaper ad from November 1962 endorsing a yes vote for the project.

An edition of the defunct Kansas City Times mentions Harry S Truman stadium.

What were they referring to?

Kansas City Times, August 27, 1952.

$45,000 in 1952 is the equivalent of $414,000 today.

The house has a three car garage with one entered from Manor street and two entered from Leslie Street.

We lived a quarter mile from this place in a two room house, but by 1952 we had moved. This was the rich section of Independence at the time.

Perhaps the rodeo arena on O highway, aka US 71 Bypass, aka M-291.
