Mid 40's during the week though, looks like a snowless Christmas this year.

We're definitely bringing warm leggings for our January trip. Do you think we'll want gloves and a scarf? It seems silly to take stuff like that to Florida but on the other hand the game plan is to stay in a motel on one side of the river, and walk across the Bridge of Lions to do the touristy stuff in St. Augustine (and probably we'll make this walk before 10 a.m. so we can spend plenty of time over there). I can imagine it might get nippy walking over the bridge.
Caladium read JBtwinz post a little closer ...He's not in Florida currently but "back home" up north where ever that is. Definitely not Amelia Island though. And yes gloves a scarf and jacket would be advisable for January in NE FL. worst thing that can happen is you may not need them. It's better to not need and have, than not have and need.

I often wonder what the weatherman means when he says it is 45 degrees but it feels like 35. Does he mean it feels like 35 to him? How does he know how it feels like to me? Just give me the temperature, don't tell me how it feels.

don't think I'll ever need a windchill chart here in Florida.

Maybe you will for the next few days . But probably not. Because it seems to me that we get our coldest weather when there is absolutely zero wind.

BTW - I ran across a neat gizmo in Lowe's the other day. A plant frost protector. Supposed to be good to 25 degrees (which is about as cold as it ever gets at the Beaches). Looks like a collapsible pup tent. And it pops open into a somewhat conical tent that can cover a plant. Here is a description from the Home Depot website:

NuVue 22 In. Frost Cover for Plants and Shrubs (20290) from The Home Depot

It apparently comes in 4 sizes (Lowe's only had 2). And ours was missing the stakes that are supposed to come with it (discovered that when we got home but we used some we already had). Note that 99% of our stuff is hardy - and the 1% that isn't is small stuff I'm prepared to lose and replant every spring. But this year I found a lemongrass plant (that I use in Thai and other oriental cooking). It's hard to find - a slow grower - not particularly hardy - and I'd like it to get through the winter. So I bought one for the lemongrass. Will see how it does.

Finally - LoveBoating - I know you dislike the cold almost as much as I do. Have you ever tried using a humidifier in your house this time of year? We use a couple like this:

CareFree® 3.5G PermaWick™ Humidifier Plus Digital Humidistat - 34357 | hunterair.com

The advantage of using a humidifier is that moist air can take more heat than dry air and still be comfortable. So you can kick up the thermostat a few degrees - and not have to worry about waking up with a scratchy throat and skin that feels like it belongs on a lizard.

Another thing I do to avoid "lizard skin" is I go to Sally's - and buy white cotton gloves (cheap). Put Vaseline (also cheap) on my hands at night before I go to bed - and use the white gloves (so the Vaseline doesn't get all over the bedding). This "treatment" works better than any "high-priced spread" I have ever tried. Robyn

P.S. At least the nice weather lasted through the Gator Bowl. The metro area looked really good on TV today (and the Gators won ).

I keep my tropicals in pots and move them inside. I knew it wouldn't be much longer before we got a good dose of artic air.

Actually turned my heat on last night (set to 64). I don't believe it ever kicked on though.

It was about 35°F this morning when I went on my daily walk/photo excursion here in Riverside/Avondale barely any wind though so it wasn't to bad. A bit nippy, but if your dressed for it no problem! Supposed to be even colder and windier Wednesday(04-Dec-12) morning.

Had to throw another blanket on the bed last night. I sleep close to a window in our bedroom, so I needed it.

At least I didn't have to put on my winter parka that I still have/got in Colorado.......that's a GOOD thing! Wife didn't have to wear her parka either. She has a nice fall/winter type coat that she got in NC when we lived there. Lighter than the parka, but still keeps her warm.

I was really worried about our boat that is sitting on a trailer at a local Boat/RV storage, but a friend of ours told us not to worry at all. Him and his wife live down in Ormond Beach and had a cuddy cabin (like ours and same year) in Dry Storage for 30 some years and never had a problem with freezing temps. He took the boat back to Mich (other home) 8 yrs ago because of a drive repair that needed to be done. Last year they really missed their boat, after being on ours twice, got the boat repaired in Mich. and brought it back here. He told me yesterday "I wouldn't worry. It doesn't stay cold long enough to worry about the engine freezing up. Anyway, we will go over to our boat this coming weekend and start up the engine and let it run for awhile. There are a lot of nice power boats that are sitting on trailers or in dry storage here that don't get "winterized", so.......not to worry (I surely hope).
