Some arthritis pain is kicking up due to this darn cold! Have the heat on right now and will have the fireplace going tonight. Who would think of having a fireplace going in Florida during the winter???? This isn't the northwest, east or northeast! This is Florida, where most people in the north would think that people who want to escape cold weather would be!

I understand your pain but it's still hardly cold compared to the NE. It's 10 degrees right now (getting colder over night) where I'm from. That's a BIG difference than high 20s/30ish.

Was actually frost on the car windows this morning. Still not as bad as it is in NJ where I'm from today though.

Don't really care how much colder it is in other places of the U.S.........most "Baby Boomers" (and older) don't move to Florida from the north and think they will need to keep, let alone use, the cold weather attire they did in the north. If they have two homes, the second one is here to GET AWAY from the cold weather and snow of the north. The snow, they don't have to worry about here, but these temps over the weekend were just TOO cold!! Anyone who has lived here for a year or more, knows that the temps can get this cold sometimes during these months......but it sure doesn't mean us "old folks" gotta like it! The old arthritis pain can really kick in!

Most baby boomer's don't move to Jacksonville, FL. if all they want is warm/hot weather. There are very few second homes here in Jacksonville, compared to St Pete, Clearwater, Sarasota, Palm Beach, Boca Raton or Naples. Baby boomer's move here because it's less expensive than further south or it's work related, not because it's always warm.

Could be true, but this last weekend was miserable for a lot of older folks. Can't do much-to-anything outside. Have already talked to the wife and both agree that Jax is a nice place to live, but once we are both retired, most likely we will leave. Only thing is, from what the U.S. map shows, when a Polar Cold Front comes down from Canada, it can cover areas of the U.S. that are considered the "warm spots" during the winter months......parts of So Calif, parts of Arizona and Florida. Just can't escape it! Anaheim, Ca was is in the lower 40's overnight and mid 50's daytime......now that is cold for that area no matter what time of year it is. Wife and I use to live there, so we know how miserable that can feel there! We expected cold weather when we lived just south of Denver, CO. Also, expected snow, of which we got quite a bit of for the 5 1/2 yrs there.

I got rid of almost all of my, "cold weather," gear. Only kept my ski jacket because, well, I love skiing. Most people who move down here from up there would do the same and not look back.

Haven't put anything heavier than a light jacket on since I've lived here (little over a year).

We don't have the winter/snow gloves we had in CO and in NC anymore, but still have the heavy winter parka's that we bought when we first moved to CO and wife still has her snow boots. Also have an electric blanket we bought in CO. When we moved here to Jax, I had a pair of Justin steel-toed workboots that I bought in CO and wore a couple of times in snow/ice there, but sold them just after we moved here. Sometime we will put the parka's and snowboots on craigslist or maybe e-bay to sell. It doesn't cost to sell on craigslist, but does on e-bay.

I know you are younger (much?) than we are and at our age, it is much easier for either (or both) of us to possibly catch a bad cold from real cold weather than it was 10 plus years ago. The old immune system can lessen more and more with age. During the winter months, like in CO and NC, we keep a heavier coat and cold medicine "at the ready" all the time.

Just remember, getting a cold has nothing to do with the weather. You can catch a cold just as easily in the summer time as during the winter. You either get the germs or you don't.

Ok, I've made that mistake before of connecting cold weather and getting colds/flu together and I'm wrong. But, I wonder how likely it would be that someone would get a cold in the middle of the summer when the temp is in the 80's or 90's. Anyway, cold weather does bring out the worst in arthritis! Now that is fact and have heard many older people comment on that.

Actually, I think it's hilarious when I hear of someone who lives here in Florida now and misses the snow (from where they came here from). Of course, like colder weather, most of the people who love snow are not of our age bracket. "Snowbirds" aren't from the younger age bracket, they are Baby Boomers and older.
