Amen, I'm not exactly the epitome of liberalism, more middle of the road if you will, but the illegal drug trade is really the root of the majority of the problems that this post is attempting to expose. MOST illegals didn't come here to commit crimes, and most crimes, even in areas with high concentration of illegals, aren't attributed to illegal immigrants. The one's you do hear about, are more often than not involved in the drug trade, and face it, the money is too good for them to give a f**k about immigration laws or any other law for that matter. But, before you go off on your anti-immigrant tangents, just remember who's making these drug cartels rich... tweakers, crackheads, rave kids, even the classic american pothead is doing his part. As long as illegal drugs are our most profitable import, the peddlers of this stuff will always find a way to make it here, and the otherwise good people of Mexico will risk deportation to come here and live to escape the conditions that become worse every year as the drug cartels increasingly root themselves deeper and deeper into the infrastructure of their country. Legalization sounds pretty extreme, but until we find someway to curb the dominance of the drug cartels, our neighbors south of the border will continue to suffer, and many will still risk life and limb to come here. I personally know many immigrants (legal, for the most part), who would love to go back home, especially with our economy tanking, but they're too afraid, because the violence associated with the drug trade keeps getting worse and worse. And for any american to dismiss this as "their problem" is in complete denial because without our clientele, these cartels wouldn't exsist!!! We can't win every battle and the notion that america can win both the war on drugs, and the war on illegal immigration is completely absurd!!

Interesting reply Cheeto. I don't think that the drug war in the US can be won, but maybe if the US legalized marijuana some of this activity would come to an end. I hate drugs, and everything they stand for, but it's obvious that there will always be rampant drug use in this country. Perhaps if our government would be willing to regulate and tax pot sale within the US we could use the tax benefit to help pay down our national debt and also be free from most of the influences of the Mexican drug cartells...Tough position, what do you think?

I've seen a lot of hard drug use, and i too despise what it does to people and the disgusting lifestyle it generates, though in all fairness, i try not to rank pot in the same category because it is definitely a 'softcore' drug in comparison to the other junk people take out there. However, in the terms of dollars and cents, marijuana is just as big of a business south of the border as any other contraband, and legalizing it would be a win-win situation for the U.S., and a big blow to the illegal funding of the cartels. Although much of our street crime is attributed to harder drugs here, it would eliminate some of the drug related crimes in america, including those punks that would just as soon sell a bag of weed to a 12 year old kid as a 30 year old man. While legalization of ALL illicit drugs is pretty extreme and its success would be a pipe dream (pun intended), legalization of marijuana would be a different approach to the failed war on drugs, and it would have more of a negative impact on the cartels than a million drug arrests ever could! Also, in these hard times a new source of tax revenue couldn't hurt, and inderectly it would affect the daily life in many parts of Mexico, therefore helping to eliminate the seemlessly ending flow of illegals. definitely worth a try IMO

Default Authorities still seek help tracking down fugitive rapist

The tips have dwindled and the leads have produced nothing but dead ends, so authorities are asking for the public's help in apprehending a convicted rapist who walked out of a downtown Phoenix courthouse a little more than two weeks ago.

Adrian Gonzalez Cruz, 26, escaped while in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 17.

Detectives don't know whether Cruz is in Mexico, where his family lives in Michoacan state, or in the Valley.

“Since he's been in custody with the (Department of Corrections), he's kind of changed his sexual orientation,” said Jason White, a sheriff's detective. “He wants to get his sexual appetite satisfied however he can.”

Today the news reported a ring of 20 illegal immigrants from Honduras being arrested in Bartow, Florida for stealing cans of baby formula from grocery stores and selling them "out of state" on the black market. They had 1600 cans stored in a warehouse and had been doing this for several months.

Additional Information

ORLANDO -- A total of 21 men and women in Orange, Osceola and Polk counties face charges in what investigators are calling an “Operation Hot Milk.”
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the group stole thousands of cans of powdered baby formula, spanning throughout the southeastern United States. They would then sell the formula on the black market.
Investigators have been arresting the men and women since October 2008.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement helped in the investigation because the crimes spanned several counties.
The Sheriff’s Office said all the men and women facing charges are undocumented immigrants from Honduras and Mexico.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have been alerted and immigration holds have been placed on the suspects.
Investigators said the suspects walked into local supermarkets, grabbed cans of baby food, stuffed them into large plastic bags and left the store without paying for the merchandise. Nearly 2,000 stolen cans of baby formula were then stashed in a storage unit.
Reports show the suspects would ship the baby formula out-of-state for sale on the black market.
