Boise’s refugee resettlement program seen as a success
By: The Associated Press April 27, 2016

Quote:
The success of Boise’s refugee resettlement program has attracted international attention.

German professionals, public officials and volunteers visited Boise this month to learn about how the city welcomes and integrates refugees.

“For most of our history, refugee resettlement was not concern. But it has become more of a political issue,” said Diana Lachiondo, who works in Boise Mayor David Bieter’s office. “Boise is a little bit of an island.”

Thanks, Volo.
Alarmist is exactly what this is. The hotspot carved its way across what's now the Snake River Plain about 6 billion years ago going northward. Then, a long time after it had cut its way into what is now Wyoming, the techtonic plates shifted. The Wyoming side of the plate was driven under the Idaho side of the other plate, creating the Tetons, which are a lot lower than the Idaho side. At the same time, as the Tetons were pushed up, so was Yellowstone.

The old hot spot track did create a lot of massive volcanic action, but that all cooled into an underground hard plug of lava that's over a mile thick. The overthrust when the plates moved created another volcanic barrier even deeper. The lava chamber below Yellowstone is much thinner below the ground surface and a lot closer to the surface. There's a remote chance the chamber could blow, but for sure, it won't on the Idaho side. At all.

Essentially, all of idaho lies on the same plate, on the west side of the Great Divide, which is roughly where the two plates meet. We are always going to get earthquakes because we are close to this fault line, but Idaho is sitting like a cork in a bowl of water when it comes to volcanoes erupting. They could blow all around us, but the enormously thick lava below us is our cork on Mother's Earth's boiling bowl.

Molten rock is just like hot water- it follows the path of least resistance. The least resistance is on the other side of the Divide.

(High school earth science, taught to me by one of the best geologists to ever teach the subject. He left teaching a few years later to take a job with Phillips Petroleum in the Wyoming fields, and make a lot of money there. He was young, and took the teaching job while awaiting better offers.

He was also the guy who taught me mountaineering. A little bunch of us, some high school kids and some INL climbers went with him on his weekend day-trip expeditions. A day spent with that guy in the mountains was always a detailed geology lesson. He never stopped teaching until the day was over.
That's where I got most of the stuff I write- he was so good I barely had to crack a book in college geology 101 to ace the class.)

11 Reasons Why I Moved To Idaho – Resource Travel

The People

This, above all, is the most enjoyable aspect of life in Idaho. The people here are real. They are passionate. And above all, they are friendly. As I said before, Idahoans are proud of their state, and love showing it off to people who have not yet found the hidden treasure of the Pacific Northwest.
