you are talking about what someone prefers. you aren't talking about which vehicle is more practical. women just don't like minivans because they are mom cars. apparently moms are in denial that they're moms?
Put the same tires on both and there is no comparison.
um, ya think? thank you for pointing out the most obvious thing of all time. my point was that if you have the right tires, you will never need AWD, and that most AWD systems with a few exceptions, are slip and grip systems. you won't slip with the proper tires. most AWD systems are FWD 99.99% of the time. I will wait for you to respond with something about subaru. oh, and AWD is only useful in gripping. won't help you stop, soooooo.
Yeah, because I’d much rather have snow tires on my GTI than drive the AWD Highlander in 10 inches of snow.
How about rain? I have the exact same Michelin’s A/S on two of my cars, one FWD, one AWD. The FWD floats about the road at highway speed. The AWD, doesn’t even flinch.
In 1999 I fled Hurricane Floyd from Wilmington NC to Charlotte as the outer bands came ashore. Floyd flooded NC. I was in a 1999 Subaru Outback. It was beyond words amazing how well that vehicle performed while hauling A$$ up 74 as flooding was occurring. Like driving water spider at 80 mph with the power swirling around me keeping grip and traction in milliseconds. Nothing on the road could even remotely keep up with me that night.
My current AWD with those same Michelin’s the VW has as well (yes, both at same tread depth, bought both sets of tires at the same time late last year) is even better than that Subaru, a W212 Benz.
No way would I ever put snow tires on my FWD if I had the option of using AWD instead.
so to start off, you are comparing ground clearance to AWD capability. that's kinda odd, but ok. if you want to compare apples to dust busters, knock yourself out. would you rather have an AWD golf R, or a FWD highlander outfitted with proper tires in 10 inches of snow? you are also telling us how FWD doesn't perform as well as AWD while you're "hauling A$$" and SPEEDING on the highway. maybe, um, follow simple laws?
they actually would, and I proved it. so ya know, there's that. the golf R and highlander scenario kinda blew his theory out of the water. a FWD highlander would absolutely destroy an AWD golf R in deep snow. it's called ground clearance.

you're not following and it's becoming redundant. most AWD systems are FWD slip and grip systems. those are the "facts." you won't slip if your FWD vehicle is riding on winter tires. the comparison I made was that FWD vehicles with winter tires out perform AWD vehicles with all seasons. if you floor it in snow, AWD might give you a tiny more traction, but that's about all. if you accelerate like a normal person, you'll never need AWD.
but back to the original topic. there's nothing game changing about another boring faux SUV with a relatively under powered V6 engine that gets poor fuel economy.
