Genesis, I own one (albeit a fully loaded V8 model), and for one, the interior in the '14 Impala doesn't even stand up to my '10 genesis when it comes to material choices.

The Genny might not be the sportiest in the world, but it should easily keep up with an Impala.

The seats in the Genny is miles and bounds more comfortable, for those who care about that.

RWD platform alone makes me favor the Genesis, and it's actually pretty well balanced and at least in V8 trim, fiercely fast if you control the transmission. (Transmission programming being one of the downsides to the car, definitely doesn't like hard starts etc in D)

Overall, despite not liking the overall looks of the new Genesis (nor love the looks of my current one for that matter, it's pretty bland), it would win, hands down, in my opinion. It's simply a higher end car.

I ended up buying mine simply because nothing else on the used car market seemed to provide as much in one package for the price.

...Which brings up a fair point, for the price I'd get a very gently used 5.0 R-spec Genesis.

I got my 10' with 11,5k miles in May, fully loaded, driven in southern CA, $26,750 +shipping and TTL

Also, should be said I also thoroughly enjoy the looks on peoples faces when a 28 year old ex-con looking fella comes driving in a 50+ year old-mobile (aka Genesis), so far every other Genesis owner I've met look at me like I stole it, lol, it's fabulous.

I've seen many people in their 30s and 40s driving a genesis in my travels. I guess the demographics is different in various parts of the country.

Seems to be largely the retired or, close to it, well off people who are money conscious ones around D-Town.

This also me in the picture below, which might be part of it.

Impala is not in the same class as a Genesis. Chevy doesn't make a car, unless you want to consider the SS, as it's the only RWD sedan. Need to go to the Cadillac showroom.

When both are fully loaded, a Chevy will not look like this:

It will be interesting how much an AWD Genesis goes for. I'm waiting for the '15 Legacy details to get released. Either new WRX/Legacy or a used 2013 fully loaded SHO for ~$30K.

If I had to choose without test-driving... Genesis. Better engine/transmission options plus it's RWD-based. The new front-end treatment is a bit bold for my tastes but IMO it's still a pretty handsome car. However the Genny sedan has a reputation for being a soft car so the benefits of a RWD platform may be offset by the suspension tuning.

I've come around on the looks of the 2014 Impala (hated it at first)... but it's still FWD and IMO even with the V6 is slightly underpowered for a car of its size.

GM needs to re tune all of its DI 3.6 for a bit more low end torque and then 300HP will feel more like it. I just traded in my 09 G6GXP with the 252HP 3.6L for a 2012 Impala LTZ with 302HP and the G6 is as quick or quicker due to gearing.
