I have seen several posts like this one over the last few months. Is this place really that superior to the average tire store? If so, what makes it so? Price? Service? Combo of the two?

They only do tires, so they don't jack you around by trying to sell other maintenance. Every location I have ever been to has also been super professional and efficient. They also run great specials and their everyday prices are hard to beat.

The only rocket engine testing done at MSFC in Huntsville in the last 40 years has been for research purposes only. All the routine rocket engine tests have been done at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. When I worked at MSFC in the early 1980's I helped analyze Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) test data we got from Stennis.

The test stands at MSFC in Huntsville are mainly used for structural testing of rocket components. This started back in the 1960s and continues today with testing of components for the Space Launch System (SLS).

I might add that the photo of Discount Tire was taken looking north across Hwy 72. To the left is Salsarita's Fresh Cantina and to the right is CB&S Bank.

In the late 90's we tested the then new to us Russian RD-180 engines on the big Saturn stand. It was impressive. And the wiring and connectors on them was total junk, I was shocked when it all worked.

Yes it is. I drove right past it yesterday, along with several thousand cars on the 72.

Those "junks" worked pretty damn well, we still are not able to copy them. It's "father", the RD-170, is still the most powerful liquid rocket engines in production today.

When you were testing the RD-180, the young test engineer, Robert Lightfoot, went on became the Center Director at Marshall and now is the man in charge of NASA.

Your Californian is showing. CA is the only place I've ever heard anyone refer to roads as "the" 72 or "the" 65. You've escaped. Embrace the superfluousness of the word, "the."
