5 lanes for Blake Bottom wasn’t the preferred plan according to early reports, but the DOT grant apparently required it. 3 lanes as originally proposed would have been sufficient for quite some time. There isn’t a lot of undeveloped land once you cross Indian Creek Rd, all residential from there to Jeff.

This mornings news report says 2 years to design, 2 years to complete. If they use the contractor that built the overpass, this may double.

If that's the case, congratulations on somebody's forward thinking. It seems they never plan and design with the future in mind.

Let's just hope it's not the Zierdt Rd. contractor ....

Pass Birmingham maybe maybe not. Mayor Battle approach is correct, not about being the biggest

Apparently being 2nd largest means a lot to Mobile ... they're trying to annex 13,000 folks before the census so they'll be above Huntsville, according to al.com: https://www.al.com/news/2019/11/mobi...ot-likely.html

They can do whatever they like, but looking at the trends at the moment it won't change a lot. According to the graph in story about Huntsville passing Montgomery, Huntsville is growing at around 10,000 people per every 3 years pace. That's just for the past 3 years. It seems like 2019 has been even more explosive in growth to me personally. We know it can definitely start to jump even more with the amentities and businesses locating here.

I don't believe in fierce competition between cities in the same state. I believe what's good for one is good for all. Mobile growing is good for the state just like Huntsville gaining population. I want to see every one do well in the state, and have good things going on in their areas. I'm from west-central Alabama and see the advantages of everyone doing well. We wouldn't have a situation where outsiders talk about one area of the state being good and avoiding other areas. There are good people all over this state.

Driving down Blake Bottom you start to question how much of the $9.3M is going to pockets of the residents who live on it lol. Curious to see how long ROW acquisition takes. Most of the homes along Blake Bottom have pretty large front yards....there are a few however, who are going to be losing a sizeable portion of their front lawn with this project.

Side note...what happened to the Jeff Road widening project? It needs to way more than Blake Bottom.

If Huntsville does overtake Birmingham in the next decade or so it would be nice to finally have some more options flying in and out of the airport like Southwest.

It'll likely be in the next couple of years at the current rate, but I doubt it'll get SW service in here. I seem to recall they don't want to negatively impact service in B'ham by opening here. And the B'ham metro will still be larger, and much more accessible by highway, than Huntsville is or will be in the forseeable future. But one never knows. Passenger traffic at HSV is up dramatically over last year - something over 23% higher in the last 12 months.
