goddamn. ive never seen a pack of stray dogs that large in that area. until everyone from every background in this country begins to understand the concept of a pet and animal ownership things like this will happen. from my experience, the animals i come across in the 5th ward are too starved or hot to be much of a threat

btw i love how the chron pointed out the "leader" of the pack as a "pit bull".

I'm not usually this cynical, but this place is beginning to resemble a Third World country. I live in an affluent area, so I don't see it as much, but this story reminds me that there are neighborhoods in Houston and in other cities (Detroit) that wouldn't look out of place in Calcutta or San Salvador (no offense to Indians or El Salvadorians). Canada looks really good some days.

Is anyone doing anything to help the woman with her medical bills? It is so sad that she was trying to start her first day on a new job and now she won't be able to earn an income for her family. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family.

I have had several dogs in my lifetime and know you can't keep a pack as their mentality changes with more than two. We have issues with people allowing their dogs to run lose in our condo complex but some people still refuse to believe their dogs could ever bite.

Beginning? The Bloody Nickel has been a hellhole for decades. Junkyard dogs with swollen, swinging balls = cultural icon.

So awful, for the woman and the dogs. Since moving here, I have been saddened by the number of stray dogs wandering in certain areas...
Interesting (and pointless) that they felt the need to identify the "leader" as a pitbull mix.
