I'm no stranger to the 3rd world, either. I'm a former Peace Corps volunteer. I was simply making the point that for the richest country in the world, there are areas that come surprisingly close to resembling the living conditions in the 3rd world. The growing disparity between rich and poor here is also reminiscent of 3rd world conditions.
