My little man has been constantly asking me to take him fishing but sadly to say I'm a complete noob in the fishing world and haven't a clue as to where to take him to have some father and son bonding. Please give me some recommendations of some hot spots in Galveston that I can take him.

I'd like to take him somewhere that is almost guaranteed to catch something to get him excited about fishing rather than venture out on my own and go home empty handed and he's bored on the first trip out. Please advise. Thanks for all your help!!

For a noob its probably best to go with one of the fishing guides. Just google for galveston fishing guide, or Lake Houston or Lake Conroe fishing guide. or whatever body of water you wish to fish.

I take my son to a little lake behind the Bass Pro. Lots of fish there and he loves it

Near the Seabrook/Kemah bridge, just before sunrise during the summer. See if your grocery store has some expired shrimp you can use as bait. There are lots of pinfish and croakers out there. Also lots of minnows you can get in a cast net. I wouldn't keep any of that unless I was using it for bait to do some real fishing in the Gulf. Should be entertaining for a 5 yr old nonetheless.

Go to Buffalo Run Park in Fort Bend county Fondren @ Beltway 8 the have like 40 acres of lakes there and you can fish there. Do not park along Buffalo Run there are car break ins from time to time park in the back away from the main street and you should be ok

Thanks for the replies guys. I do appreciate the suggestions. However I'd like to take him fishing in Galveston so that way the family can go swimming at the same time. Any suggestions there and also what's the best time to go that will yield a lot of bites?

East beach, south jetty, before sunrise. Bring a surf rod, not a Snoopy pole.

What you are describing is beach/jetty fishing and is going to be a little more hit or miss. I'll second East Beach for the family while you and your son fish the jetty. To me it's not the ideal place to fish with a 5 year old. Fishing with shrimp will maximize your strikes. Stick with the dead variety. You may catch fish you don't want to unhook – gafftop catfish. At that age I would find a pond and go fish for catfish with catfish bait or bream (sunfish/bass and the like) with worms. Fish the bank, not the middle for bream. Use a bobber – it's more entertaining for a 5 year old. Also, keep the trip short.
