Kingwood is all abuzz about this and there was a town hall meeting on Monday. Apparently they did some traffic study of Kingwood Dr. and based on the results they are proposing to pave over all the trees and turn Kingwood Dr. into 4 lanes each way. For those not familiar with Kingwood there is a 2 lane wide strip separating the current east and west bound 2 lane roads that is full of mature trees and landscaping as well as a 10-12 foot treed/landscaped border on each side of the roads. I have yet to find anyone who thinks this is a good idea.

Here is a news article on it: http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/kingw...7aed9e3b2.html

Sad. Yet another reason why Kingwood should have incorporated into its own city.

That would seriously suck. I love driving down Kingwood Dr solely because of the trees!

I live near Woodland Hills Dr. and Kingwood Dr. and it only takes me around 5 minutes to get out in the morning.

You all are overreacting. Thats what you get when everybody wants to live in the woods. It starts looking less Woody. Something would have to be done whether KW was independent or not

Anyway, why can't they update another road to handle some of the traffic. Like Widening Hamblen Road to Woodland Hills Dr

I don't see how anyone's overreacting. In my opinion, nothing has to be done except accept things as they are now. I've had enough with the "let's just keep eating up more land until there's none left" attitudes. It's time the city (and state) started exploring the idea of alternatives, instead of just always paving everything over.

Atlanta is a metro of similar size that does a better job of preserving its landscape. Traffic is a nightmare. Oh well. That's part of the deal when you choose to live there.

Thats exactly what I am saying. Something else could be done instead of crying about one suggestion why not explore alternatives.

Default Moved from Kingwood, Just in time apparently...

What brought me to the area beside a potential job offer were the trees in Kingwood. The job was among a few possibilities, but honestly I would have passed if I had not visited Kingwood. I leased a home for just over a year and explored the areas within a reasonable distance of the job. The drive in and out on Kingwood drive is pleasant if you are not in a huge hurry. Enjoy the trees. Better than looking at spray painted concrete at 65 mph any day.

If you wanted to widen one of the ways in, why not North Park? Cover the ditch and go 3 lanes each way? North Park did not seem to have the same aesthetics to me that Kingwood Drive has. Widening it might scrape some of the less appealing features from the edges on the way in. (I will let the residents ponder that one)
