Who are "they" the Texans and the Rodeo are not bareing the cost of maintaining the Dome and "they are the driving force behind the tear it down crowd.

I think the Texans just want what they consider an eyesore out of thier way not to mention they want to totally disconnect from a structure that represents a past they had no part of. The Rodeo I think just wants the extra space and has no sentimental attachment to thier old digs.

"We" the taxpayers are the ones bearing the cost of the Dome not to mention much of the cost of Reliant Park as well and we will have the final say.

The two options I like best are

1) a repurposing of the building to accomodate whatever sporting and convention uses not currently facilitated by our other venues (swimming, track and field, future Olympic trials ect).

2) Seperate it from the rest of Reliant Park and sell it to private developers for a minimum bid of lets say
$10 million and let the market decide what the fate of the Dome will be. This at least will keep us from having to pay $30 million for a 2500 space parking lot ( thats about $12,000 per space BTW)

Insurance on that thing is a MOTHER

The thing I don't understand is that the City spends millions a year on city improvements that don't necessarily have a financial profit (Public parks, beautification projects, Playing fields), Why not spend $200M and make some money out of the thing?
Public parks and such raise property values which leads to more tax money. They don't do that stuff for fun.

Have there been any proposals in the past?

I know that, that's why i didnt say those things are useless. Look at how i put things together before you waste your time telling me things i already know.
Next you gonna tell me the oceans are wet?

You know very well that i mean that they do things without instant pay back via ticket sales, why cant they see this as a city improvement too and do some work on it.

Goodell I believe has already hinted that tearing it down for a parking lot is our biggest chance for scoring another Superbowl, and of course you know the city is going to see $$$$. But I say screw the Superbowl then for a damn parking lot.

And of course the media is pumping into us how much we waste in taxes on it.. unfortunately knowing Houstonians.. I am sure it is only a matter of time until they give in.

Right, ABC 13 ran a hit piece on the Dome tonight. It's Disgusting that they are in the tank as well to have it torn down.

I would buy it for $10 million and turn it into a museum exhibiting better cities, like New York, Dallas, San Antonio, etc. Complete with exhibits showing people commuting calmly on a subway, drinking clean freshwater, etc.
