Are there any "Christmas Tree Shops" stores in Houston? No, I'm not talking about stores that literally sell Christmas trees, but this is a chain of small department stores owned by Bed Bath & Beyond. They have a few stores in the Philadelphia area. Seems like these stores are like a cross between Sears and Target. And it seems like they do everything right that Sears can't. The stores also aren't boring the way Target is. If it were up to me I would definitely put a Sears in the Foley's/Macy's, but Christmas Tree Shops would be a perfect second choice. Who agrees with me?

This is what a Christmas Tree Shops looks like on the outside: Epstein's - Bridgewater, NJ | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

On the inside, it's a beautiful mix of colors!

There is a Christmas Store in Kemah and one in Galveston. The one in Galveston has more than the one in Kemah.

How sad. Just learned this from friends in Houston who were visiting this weekend and wondered if there was a thread. I was really sad to see Foley's go, but at least it was bought by Macys. I always seemed busy at lunch, but dead after work. I guess this isn't a real surprise. This means there are no large retailers left downtown, right? Any plans for any?

I bought some of the showcases. Good deals to be had for anyone with retail stores.

Last i heard, there are no solid plans yet. but a smaller footprint store is a possibility.

This is pretty sad. I guess Dallas has the only downtown stand alone department store out of the 3 major cities in Texas. In Dallas they are actually putting in more high-end retail next to the Downtown Neiman-Marcus. To lose nearly 800,000 sq ft of retail space has to be a huge blow to Downtown Houston. The Downtown Neiman's doesn't even have more than 250,000 sq ft of retail space and I know it would effect our Downtown greatly. I really hope this building isn't demolished because Houston doesn't need to demolish anymore of its history.

Isn't the whole reason for the Macy's closure because the family wants to demolish the building?
Its not a pretty building but it does anchor Main Street Square. Hope whatever they build is respectable.

It doesn't have to be pretty to be historic.

While I agree that Houston has a horrible reputation for destroying its historic buildings, there is a valid reason that the Macy's was torn down so that the site could be redeveloped. It's not just going to sit empty.
